Southampton, NJ is a small town located in Burlington County with a population of 5,086 as of the 2010 census. The local politics are overseen by the Township Committee, which is an elected body that works to pass ordinances and develop plans for the betterment of the township. This five-member committee is responsible for enacting legislation, overseeing zoning issues, and approving contracts with vendors. Each member serves a three-year term and elections are held every year to select new members. In addition to the Township Committee, Southampton also has a Mayor who is also elected by the residents and serves for four years. The Mayor oversees all day-to-day operations of the town as well as working with the Township Committee on any necessary decisions or agreements.
