South Salt Lake is a small city in the state of Utah, located just south of Salt Lake City. Despite its small size, South Salt Lake has a vibrant political scene that has been active for many years. The current mayor is Cherie Wood, who was elected in 2017 and has worked to improve the city’s infrastructure and services. Under Mayor Wood's leadership, South Salt Lake has developed several new initiatives to increase economic growth and development, as well as add amenities such as parks and trails. In addition to Mayor Wood, other important local political figures include City Councilmember Shireen Ghorbani and State Representative Marie Poulson. Both of these officials have made significant contributions to the city through their advocacy for improved public services and increased access to resources. With such strong local leaders at the helm, South Salt Lake is sure to continue to see increased progress in coming years.

How It Works:
Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
