Somerville, AL is a small city located in the state of Alabama. Despite its size, it has a rich political history that dates back to the late 1700s. The city is governed by a mayor-council form of government, with the mayor elected at large every four years. The current mayor is longtime resident Stanley Blevins who was first elected in 2011. The City Council consists of seven members elected from the seven wards within the city limits. In addition to local government officials, Somerville also sends representatives to both houses of the state legislature and federal level as part of its congressional district.
