Niantic, Connecticut is a small town located in New London County. It has a population of just over 5,600 people and is considered part of the greater Norwich-New London area. This quaint seaside village is home to many traditional American activities such as annual clam bakes, Fourth of July parades, and other community gatherings. Niantic also plays an important role in local politics with several candidates running for office each election season. Recently, the town has seen several hotly contested races for state and federal offices. A notable example is the 2018 gubernatorial race between Ned Lamont and Bob Stefanowski which was eventually won by Lamont. Another notable race was the 2016 congressional race between Joe Courtney and Daria Novak which was once again won by Courtney. Both men have had successful careers representing their constituents in Niantic and are well respected within the community. In addition to these two races, many smaller local elections take place each year involving Town Council seats, Board of Education positions, and other important roles within Niantic’s government. As such, the town’s political scene remains active and vibrant with plenty of opportunities for citizens to get involved in their local government.
