Granger, IN is a small town located in Northern Indiana with a population of around 35,000 people. The Town Council governs the area and is comprised of five members who are elected on a non-partisan basis. Local politics in Granger generally focus on issues that affect the day to day lives of its citizens, such as zoning regulations, taxation, public safety, housing development and maintenance of parks and recreational facilities. In recent years there has been an increased emphasis on environmental sustainability initiatives within the community. The current Town Council has been working hard to address these issues through several ordinances enacted over the last three years. Residents can get involved by attending local meetings and taking part in campaigns for their favorite candidates. Furthermore, the council regularly sponsors events such as town hall meetings where residents can come out and have their voices heard about important topics that affect their lives.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
