Friendship Heights Village, MD is a small, affluent village located near the Maryland/DC border in Montgomery County. It is home to a diverse population with many different political views and ideologies. In terms of local politics, Friendship Heights has an elected mayor and council in charge of running day-to-day operations in the village. The current mayor is Joel Rubin, who was elected in 2017 after serving 4 years on the village's Board of Directors. The Council consists of five members who are elected at-large by voters in Friendship Heights Village who must be at least 18 years old and reside within the village limits. They meet regularly to discuss issues pertinent to the Village, such as maintaining public safety, managing finances and taxes, providing municipal services, and handling code enforcement issues.
