Ellsworth, Maine is a small city located in the Downeast region of the state. It is known for its beautiful scenery and sense of community. Although it has a population of 7,500 people, Ellsworth has an active local politics scene with several candidates running for office. The current mayor is John Phillips, who was elected to a second term in 2019 and reelected again in 2021. The City Council consists of five members who are elected at-large by the voters every two years. In addition to the mayor and City Council, several committees and boards are responsible for examining different city issues and making decisions related to them. Recently, these committees have been focusing on economic development initiatives and environmental regulations.
