Bingham Township in Clinton County, Michigan is a rural agricultural area that is largely populated by farmers and ranchers. Politically, it is a very conservative area with most of its population voting Republican. The township has had an elected Board of Trustees since 1921 and currently has five members who are each elected to serve four-year terms. Each board member must live within the township and must be at least 18 years old. Local issues that the board frequently addresses include zoning, road maintenance, fire protection, and budgeting for municipal services. The Township also oversees general assistance programs for local residents in need. Every four years voters in the township choose a supervisor to serve as the head of the Board of Trustees and act as a liaison between local government and citizens.
