Peninsula, MI is a small suburban city located in the Midwestern part of the United States. It has a population of approximately 4,000 people and is governed by a mayor and city council. The city is divided into several wards with each ward having its own representative on the council. Each election cycle, local political candidates vie for the opportunity to represent their ward and work to make Peninsula a great place to live. Currently, there are three candidates running for mayor: John Smith, Mary Jones, and Jeff Johnson. Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).
