Independence Township, located in Nodaway County, Missouri, is a small rural community of about 500 people. There is no local government in the township and all political decisions are made at the county level. The county is governed by an elected Board of County Commissioners, who are responsible for setting policy and managing the budget for the entire county. The board is composed of three members who serve four-year terms.
