Loretto, MN is a small town located just outside of Minneapolis and is home to about 1,500 people. The government in Loretto is run by a five-member City Council which includes the Mayor and four Council Members. The Mayor of Loretto is Kelly Beissel, who was elected in 2018. Each Council Member serves for three years and they are responsible for making decisions regarding the local budget, setting policies, and managing city services such as water, sewer, police and fire departments. In addition to these five members of the City Council there are other roles within the politics of Loretto such as the City Clerk, Treasurer and Auditor. These roles are appointed by the mayor and serve at his or her discretion. Loretto citizens also have the opportunity to get involved in politics through participating in local elections and attending monthly council meetings. By staying informed on current issues and expressing their opinions at these meetings, citizens can help shape the future of their community.
