Lee, NY is a small town located in the southern part of New York State. It is known for its small-town charm and strong sense of community. Politically, Lee has traditionally been a conservative community with most voters identifying as Republican and supporting fiscally-conservative policies. In recent years, however, there has been an increasing number of people registering as Democrats or Independents as well as an increase in support for progressive policies such as education reform and environmental protection. Local elections are held every two years and usually feature a few candidates from both major parties vying for seats on the town council or board of selectmen. The current mayor is a Republican and the council is composed mostly of Republicans as well. In general, the political atmosphere in Lee remains fairly conservative but it is slowly becoming more diverse and progressive in outlook.
