Morehead City, North Carolina is a pleasant coastal town located in Carteret County. It has been an important part of the community since its founding in 1714 and continues to play an influential role in the region’s politics today. The city has a Mayor/Council form of government with four City Council members that serve staggered terms. The Mayor is elected to a two-year term, while the City Council members are all elected to four-year terms. The current Mayor of Morehead City is Jerry Jones, who was recently reelected in 2020 for his fourth term as Mayor. Various local candidates also run for office each year, from both sides of the political spectrum, providing residents with more than one choice when casting their vote. Through fair and open elections, local citizens can make sure their voice is heard when it comes to making decisions about their community's future.
