Shine, NC is a small town located in the southern part of the state. It is home to many families who have lived here for generations, and it has a rich history steeped in traditional values. Politics in Shine, NC are fairly typical for an area of its size and population. There is one Mayor and four City Council Members that are elected by local residents every two years for four-year terms. The Mayor serves as the executive head of the city government and presides over both legislative sessions and meetings of the City Council. The City Council establishes policies, approves budgets, passes ordinances, and sets tax rates for the citizens of Shine. The current Mayor is Martha Sanders who was elected in 2020 with 68% of the vote. In addition to Ms. Sanders there are also four other members on the council: James Johnson (incumbent), Sam White (incumbent), Mary Arnold, and Kate Wilson (both newcomers). All five members strive to work together to create a safe community that offers quality services and amenities while also being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars.
