Located on the East side of Cleveland, Ohio on Lake Erie, Bratenahl is a small village with a population of just over 1,000 people. Politically, the village is represented by a seven-member Village Council that is responsible for making laws and setting policies. The council meets twice a month to discuss and vote on issues relating to the village such as public safety, economic development, infrastructure projects, and legislation. Additionally, Bratenahl has a mayor who serves as the head of government and oversees all aspects of local governance. The mayor is also responsible for appointing department heads and members of boards and commissions.
