Amity, Oregon is a small town located in the Willamette Valley. While the population of Amity is relatively small, it still plays an important role in local politics and governance. The town has a Mayor and City Council that lead the local government and make decisions on behalf of the residents. The Council consists of five elected members who serve two-year terms. Elections for the Mayor and City Council are held every two years in November and each candidate must be a resident of Amity or have owned property in Amity for at least one year prior to filing for candidacy. In addition, the town also has a Planning Commission which advises the City Council on topics such as land use planning, zoning regulations, and economic development initiatives. As a small community with strong ties to its history, Amity's citizens take an active role in their local politics by voting in elections and attending public meetings to express their views.
