Mount Pleasant Township in Washington County, Pennsylvania is a largely rural area with a population of about 2,850 people. The Township is governed by an elected Board of Supervisors, consisting of three members each from the East and West districts of the Township. These supervisors are responsible for making decisions on issues such as road maintenance, zoning and public safety. Each supervisor is elected to a four-year term. In addition to these locally elected officials, the Township elects representatives to serve at the county and state level. At the state level, Mount Pleasant Township residents are represented by a State Senator and State Representative who are tasked with advocating for their constituents' interests in Harrisburg. Additionally, they participate in voting on legislation that affects all Pennsylvanians. This allows local citizens to have input into how their tax dollars are allocated and how laws governing land use and other regulations are formulated at both the local and state level.
