Brecknock Township in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania is a rural community located about 20 miles east of the city of Lancaster. The township has a total area of just over 11 square miles, and it is home to approximately 4,000 people. Brecknock is governed by five supervisors or commissioners who are elected to four-year terms. The board meets monthly and oversees the township’s business affairs. Every two years, residents elect a new tax collector, auditor, judge of elections, and three auditors. Elections for these positions are held in November of odd numbered years. There are several local political organizations that shape the politics in Brecknock Township including the Brecknock Township Republican Committee, which is responsible for selecting candidates for office and helping them get elected; the Brecknock Democratic Committee; and various special interest groups such as environmental organizations.
