Cleveland, TX is a small city in Texas located about 45 miles northeast of Houston. Politically, the town is part of Liberty County and is represented by several state representatives at the local, state and federal level. As part of Liberty County, Cleveland residents have access to local politicians who represent their interests in Austin and Washington D.C. At the county level, Liberty County Board of Commissioners has nine members who are elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. These commissioners oversee county departments such as health services, social services, public safety and economic development. On the state level, Cleveland citizens are represented by both a State Representative and State Senator in Austin. Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.

This is a great little town, very hometown feel. Drawbacks, very depressed area. Only jobs paying over $10 an hour are at the hospital or the jail. Otherwise you must  More
