Rio Grande City, TX is a small town located in the Rio Grande Valley and is the county seat of Starr County. It is home to a population of 13,844 people according to the 2018 census. The city is part of the Texas State Senate District 20 which is currently represented by Democrat Eddie Lucio Jr. In the Texas House of Representatives, Rio Grande City is part of District 36 which is currently held by Democrat Sergio Muñoz Jr. The mayor of Rio Grande City is Joel Villarreal who was elected in 2014 and reelected for his second term in 2017. In addition to its local politicians, Rio Grande City has also played a role in national politics, having been visited by various presidential candidates including Donald Trump and Beto O'Rourke during their respective campaigns.
