Ryegate, VT is a small town located in the northeast corner of the state with a population of approximately 420 people. The town is governed by a three-member Board of Selectmen that oversee the day-to-day operations. These selectmen are elected to one year terms by the residents and are responsible for setting local laws and regulations, approving budgets, managing personnel, and other duties. As part of the local government, residents also elect other officials including representatives to the state legislature, judges, sheriffs, coroners and prosecutors. Local elections are held annually on Town Meeting Day in March where citizens can vote for their preferred candidates for each position.
