Bremerton, Washington is a city of about 39,000 people located in Kitsap County on the Kitsap Peninsula. The city is home to many diverse and vibrant neighborhoods, each with its own unique character and charm. Bremerton is also known for its strong sense of civic pride and involvement by its citizens. In recent years, the city has seen an increase in voter participation and local political candidates vying for office. Bremerton has a strong mayoral-council form of government with the mayor being elected by popular vote every four years. The current Mayor, Greg Wheeler, was first elected in 2017 and is up for re-election this year. He will be joined on the ballot by challenger Mary Pirrello who was also recently elected to the City Council in 2019. There are also several other local races up for election including City Council members, Auditor, Treasurer and City Attorney positions. Voters in Bremerton will have a wide range of choices when they go to the polls this November.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
