Hinsdale County, Colorado is a small rural county situated in the far southwest corner of Colorado. It has a population of just over 2,500 people and is known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. The politics of Hinsdale County are largely dominated by local issues such as economic development, education, and infrastructure. The county board of commissioners consists of three members elected at large by the voters every four years. Currently, the county board members are: Ronald Lauer, Ken Varnum, and Robert Blodgett. To ensure that residents have an active say in deciding who holds these offices, the county also elects precinct committee persons from each registered political party to act as representatives for their precinct at quarterly meetings. Every two years during general elections for state and federal offices, Hinsdale County residents also select their choices for state senators, representatives to Congress, and state-wide ballot measures.
