Citrus County is located in the state of Florida and is home to a wide array of political activity. The county seat is Inverness, and it has been represented on the national level by two congressional districts since 2003. Locally, Citrus County operates under a commission-manager form of government, with five commissioners representing each of its five districts serving as the chief legislative body. The county also elects a separate seven-member School Board to oversee public education in the area. \nAt the state level, Citrus County is represented in the Florida House of Representatives by three representatives and two senators in the Florida Senate. Registered voters can participate in elections for these posts every two years during general elections following each census year. Additionally, voters can also cast their ballots for a number of local offices such as Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Clerk of Courts. Finally, special district elections are held periodically throughout the county's five districts for specific issues like bond referendums or tax levies. By engaging actively at all levels of government, citizens of Citrus County are able to make their voices heard on important matters affecting their community's future.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D for the Democrat and I for the Independent. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
