The county is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners that are elected by residents on a nonpartisan basis. County offices such as Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, Coroner, and Clerk of Superior Court are all elected positions filled by Charlton County residents every four years. The county seat is Folkston and the Board of Commissioners meet at least twice each month to discuss and vote on important issues facing the citizens of the county such as tax rates, road improvements, school board appointments, and health care needs.
