Schoharie County, located in New York State, is a small rural county with a population of just over 32,000 people. Despite its size, Schoharie County plays an important role in state and federal politics. The county is represented by two members of the U.S. House of Representatives: Antonio Delgado for the 19th Congressional District and Paul D. Tonko for the 20th Congressional District. On the state level, Schoharie County is represented by Peter Lopez in the 102nd Assembly District and George Amedore Jr. in the 46th Senate District. Both Mr. Lopez and Mr. Amedore are active members of their respective parties—Mr. Lopez is a Democrat and Mr. Amedore is a Republican—and take part in policy debates on matters such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure improvements within the county borders as well as beyond them throughout New York State.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D for the Democrat and I for the Independent. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).
