The city of Metlakatla, AK is a unique community located on Annette Island in Southeast Alaska. It is the only Native American reservation in the state and the only incorporated city in the country to be made up entirely of a single tribal group, the Tsimshian Nation. As such, Metlakatla's politics are shaped by its status as a sovereign nation within Alaska and managed by its own government separate from that of the other towns and cities in the state. The local government consists of a mayor, five council members, and court justices elected by citizens of Metlakatla.
