What BestPlaces Users Say about Fayetteville

Fayetteville, Arkansas is a mid-sized city located in the Ozark Mountains region. It is home to the University of Arkansas and has a diverse population with a mix of students, families, and retirees. The city is known for its vibrant arts and music scene, as well as its natural beauty and outdoor activities. However, like any city, it also has its drawbacks. Let's take a look at what real users have to say about living in Fayetteville.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, Fayetteville receives high praise for its outdoor opportunities and friendly community. One user, named Kevin, says "The people here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I feel like I'm part of a big family." Another user, Sara, echoes this sentiment, stating "The natural beauty of Fayetteville is unmatched, and the people here are so kind and genuine."

However, there are also some negative aspects mentioned by reviewers. Thomas, a long-time resident, notes that "The cost of living has become quite high, and traffic can be a nightmare during rush hour." Similarly, Teresa mentions that "The weather can be unpredictable, with hot and humid summers and icy winters."

Many users also mention the growing development and expansion in Fayetteville. John states, "The city is constantly growing and improving, with new restaurants and shops popping up all the time. It's an exciting time to be here!" However, others like Emily express concern about this growth, stating "I worry about the impact on the environment and the loss of green spaces."

Overall, the majority of users seem to be happy with their decision to live in Fayetteville, citing the friendly community, outdoor activities, and growth of the city as major positives. However, some drawbacks such as cost of living and unpredictable weather should also be considered before making the move.

Crime rates, traffic safety? - 6/10/2010
I have read some of the comments about crime rates in Fayetteville and I am puzzled. It is really a simple matter to check online about such things. Fayetteville's crime rates were below the national average 20 years ago but are today right at the national average. The traffic fatality rate is way above the national average. That rate is dubiously not reflected in the crime rates, even tho reckless driving, drunken driving, running red lights and speeding are all crimes. So safety in Fayetteville is lacking. The other writers here obviously have access to the free data available on the web. They seem to be writing rather carelessly, in not even bothering to check such sources as fbi.gov and nhtsa.gov. Is there something you other writers have in common? - perhaps being primarily native Read More

A good place for a certain kind of person; for ot - 6/25/2009
Fayetteville would rank very high on your personal recreation scale if you enjoy outdoor sports, such as backpacking, canoeing, hunting, or fishing. It would rank very low on your personal cultural scale if you enjoy live performances of ballet, opera, symphonic music, or theater. Extrapolate from those extremes, remember that it is in the Bible Belt, and you can get a pretty good idea of what it's like to live in Read More

Something for Everyone - 5/4/2009
Fayetteville is an excellent city for individuals interested in politics on a national, state, or community level. There are tons of organizations with activities planned year round. It is hard to live in Fayetteville and NOT be involved in something. Additionally, there are more liberal political leanings in Fayetteville than in the rest of the state, which is decidedly more Read More

Fayetteville is great - 5/4/2009
Fayetteville is a wonderful place with very friendly people, low crime, good schools. There are lots of outdoor activity in the surrounding area, state parks and lakes. The city also has a wonderful paved walking trail several miles long. The University of Arkansas campus is beautiful. Lots of great resturants and Great shopping in the town and other local towns. Also there is Razorback games and then there is "Bikes, Blues and B-B-Q" festivals. Every fall there is one of the largest craft fairs with many locations in a 2 county Read More

Fayetteville is fabulous, these folks have no clue - 1/30/2009
I moved to Fayetteville about a year ago from Asheville, NC. This place is great. Very nice people, surprisingly progressive, there are seriously "green" here, they recycle everything. The place is pretty, rolling hills, in the foothills of the Ozarks. The University of Arkansa is here. The city library is unreal, the finest I've ever seen in a city this size. Houses are reasonable, and people have pride in ownership. Every good food chain is here including Bonefish and Ruths Chris. The local restaurants, my favorites, are outstanding, from the best burger in the world at "Hugo's" to the best italian "Bordino's" to the best seafood "Cafe Rue Orleans" and "Mermaids", the food in Fayetteville rocks. Free concerts in the park in summer, great music nightly on Dickson Street, even for an older guy like me "happy hour" bands at George's Majestic, a great live music venue. Ammenities like Lake Fayetteville, great shopping. I can't believe what these other writers wrote???  Read More

Not Very Nice - 8/16/2008
My friend had a job offer in Fayetteville a few months ago and we drove from Nashville to check out the town. We were extremely disappointed. It seemed like the entire town was unclean and very low income. We were so unimpressed with it he did not accept the job because we could not imagine leaving there. It doesn't compare to Nashville in any way, whatsoever. I thought Fayetteville was very trashy and a place I would never Read More

Disappointed - 8/16/2008
Fayetteville, home of UA is so culturly behind. So is the city. It's not laid out streetwise, housing, economics. The town is the college and a hospital and tyson. If it weren't for UA, this town would be Read More

Fayetteville - 5/30/2008
Northwest Arkansas in general is a wonderful place to live. Unfortunately there has been quite an influx of illegal immigrants and people from New Orleans, that have been continuously trying to trash the place, but NWA is still nicer than most places. The scenery is gorgeous, and the people are Read More

guality of life - 4/6/2008
When the economic growth came to the Ozark area and the population increased, the influx of outsiders brought about changes to where there is no longer a regional character to the people or area. The cost of living sky rocketed and the cost of housing to the point the quality of life and stability of most average families have been compromised. The actual impact on the environment was effected to where this is no longer a clean near pristine place. The quality of my job in healthcare was horrible: I have never worked in a place with so many disenchanted people and I've never seen place where so many healthcare providers were on mood stabilizers and antidepressants. Again though most were lucky to have jobs with benefits; many were working there with none. As for liberalism it does exsist among most there and diversity is fair but also is judgementalness and cliqishness and much intolerance and that is in all "ball courts", narccism is the norm there. I found Little Rock to be worse Read More
