Not as nice as it used to be... - 6/27/2010

Hemet used to be a nice place to live an raise a family. Sadly there has been a drastic downward turn for this city over the past few years. Hemet High School is still a great school and the east side of town is older and better established. However, there are well over 100 registered sex offenders in the 92544 area code alone. Shootings and stabbings are a weekly happening around town and I've only seen them increase because I work in town as a paramedic. The economy here only makes that all worse. Me an my family will be moving out of here as soon as we can afford to... [read more...]

I can't get out of here fast enough - 3/22/2007

I agree with firehart who wrote previously. I have lived here for 20 years and remember when we truly didn't have to lock our doors. Now I have to be mindful of my surroundings all the time and I fear the criminal element that has come into the area. What I would like to add is the miserable state of our public schools. Before you move here, read the statistics regarding free lunches and breakfasts, number of students requiring English language instruction, and research the safety of your children. Look at the test scores. Look at our property tax and building fees that support our lousy schools. It has already been discussed that housing has become expensive. But there aren't any local jobs that pay enough to afford this. I'm plannng my escape soon. It's just too hot in the summer to put up with what this awful place has become.[read more...]

A great place to live - 12/27/2006

I moved here with my family, wife and four kids, over 2 years ago. There's lots to do and the scenery is fantastic. There are mountains, hills, trails, and a new lake. There's shopping and restaraunts of every kind. We particularly like the area we live in--Diamond Valley. Horse properties and lots of open area. The kids, wife, and I have had all kinds of great adventures: canoeing, rockclimbing, hiking, horseback riding, roller hockey tournaments, etc. Too much to list. The West still lives and thrives![read more...]

Hemet/San Jacinto: Crime and over population - 8/10/2006

Hemet was a quiet town of ranches and cattle 15 years ago. (granted, no culture at all). Now it is non stop building and a huge influx of people from the entire southern CA coast. As property rates rise in Orance Co. , San Diego, LA and Temecula, Hemet WAS the cheap place to buy, but no more. A house I paid $74,900 for 10 years ago is now $300,000++ and going up. Most here now going for around $400. Trust me, the scum of the earth have been running here like rats seeking higher ground on a sinking ship. This was once a safe place 10 years ago, now it is getting overrun with gangs, drugs and crime. Many are gangbanging crack heads from Moreno Valley, the septic tank attached to the new toilet. No freeway access, two lane roads in and out of the valley and more and more people on the roads makes it two hours just to get into town after work, it takes five turns of the stoplight just to get through it on Ramona Express way and Sanderson. I hate it here, where once I liked the quiet. I am leaving this mess ASAP. Roll the dice, if you move here buy a gun and get an RX for depression. Your going to need it. Oh, and BTW, more people did not mean more culture, it is still a stagnant hole for anything even close art or culture, unless the little Ramona (yawn) Pagent counts.[read more...]
