Summary of Hermosa Beach - 10/13/2007

My wife and I have lived in Hermosa for two and half years with our two daughters ages six and two. Here is a list of the pros and cons of Hermosa. Pros: Weather is nearly perfect year round (if you like the sun/70 degrees) Schools are about as good as it gets for California Families are on the rise Most everything is within walking distance Cons: Lots of tourists, which means you must always keep an eye on your kids/important things Very expensive housing/cost of living!!! Most parents are older (40 years plus with new borns or pregnant) Nearly everyone has a nanny b/c most moms can't handle raising own children Meter/Permit parking almost everywhere No yards or they are very very rare Lots and lots of superficial people Not a good place for dogs Everyone is always busy and/or in a hurry, life goes by pretty fast here [read more...]

RE: Great for Post College Young Adults - 7/26/2007

Hermosa Beach is well known for the fun, active party scene. It is encased with lots of 24 to early 30 something kids who love to hang at bars and spend many hours socializing. There is almost a college frat feel to the town with many meat market bars available as well as some more laid back scenes. Beach vollyeball is abundant with scantily clad girls. Great place to have a good time. Not so good for people who would like to start familites. The cost of housing is insane and the commute to the freeway is time consuming. However, the proximity to bars, restaurants, and groceries is fantastic. Good for singles who like to drink![read more...]
