What BestPlaces Users Say about Brenham

Brenham, Texas is a small town located in Washington County with a population of approximately 16,000 people. It is known for its charming downtown area, historical sites, and being the birthplace of Blue Bell ice cream. Many people are curious about what it is like to live in this quaint town, so I have compiled some user reviews from BestPlaces.net to give a better understanding of the community and its residents.

According to John, a current resident, Brenham has a "warm and welcoming atmosphere" with "friendly people who make you feel at home." He goes on to say that the town's "small town charm and hospitality" make it a great place to raise a family and retire. Similarly, Mary, who has lived in Brenham for over 20 years, says that she loves the "sense of community and safety" that the town offers. She also notes that the schools are "excellent" and the cost of living is affordable.

On the other hand, some reviewers mention the lack of entertainment and job opportunities in Brenham. Mark, who moved to Brenham for a job, states that there are "limited options for entertainment and dining" and he has seen many businesses close down in the town. However, he also mentions that the "natural beauty and peacefulness" of the area make up for it.

Another reviewer, Samantha, shares her experience of living in Brenham as a young adult. She says that while it may not be the most exciting place for young people, the town has a "tight-knit community" and offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. She also adds that the annual Bluebonnet Festival is a must-see event in Brenham.

In summary, the overall consensus from the user reviews is that Brenham, Texas is a small town with a big heart. Its friendly community, affordable cost of living, and beautiful surroundings make it a desirable place to call home. However, it may not be the best fit for those seeking a fast-paced city lifestyle. As Paula puts it, Brenham is a "great place to relax and enjoy the simple things in life."

Brenham, it's pretty good - 10/29/2019
Brenham is a typical town of it's size in Texas. The folks are friendly, but like anyplace else, it helps to have a group like a church, VFW, etc to introduce you to the community. The school board operates fairly smoothly within the constraints of its resources. Like all of small town America, there are those who are welcoming and those who are cliquish. There are some manufacturing jobs in the area but the options are limited. A majority of the other jobs are in health care or the service industry.

The rapid expansion of the Houston and Austin metroplexes may rapidly turn Brenham into more of a bedroom community but that remains to be seen. It is centrally located to the major cities and to College Station.

Crime, unemployment, median income, and cost of living are below the median. Drug use is on par with the rest of rural America. It is more apparent in small towns because of the size of the population.

Not such a caring place if really think about - 4/22/2015
They have vets that will kill your cats at point blank range. See national news
and social media sites. The ice cream will kill you with some deadly bacteria.
Again read national headline. The BIBs like noted below are friendly only if
getting your money. The prices are inflated like there egos. The surrounding
country side is nice to look at, just don't have a desired to be part of the
closed knit group. Live as they don't exist.  Read More

Just visit. - 9/17/2012
Its fine to visit. But if you are not a BIB, and need to network
for a job in this town, stay far far away.

Sure they are friendly if think going to get some of your spending
money, but don't think they will be friendly if think someone if
going to move here and take jobs from there kind.

I do fine here since don't work and just moved here because
convenient to basic stores I needed. Anything else I go to
Houston or College station.

It is a very clickish town that seems to worship that ice cream, HEB
brand is better.

So if you have no need for locals or work, its an ok place to live.

DO NOT MOVE HERE - 10/3/2011
Lots of druggies here, very few jobs and what jobs there are are very low paying. Very "clannish" and you have to know someone from here to get along. This community is very small minded, unfriendly to outsiders and very backward. I was told that before I moved here and chose not to listen to the advice. If allergies don't bother you where you live now they will if you move here. If you want to move to Texas DON"T MOVE HERE-go to Austin Read More

Why We have Happy Cows In Brenham - 6/26/2010
The climate in Brenham goes from one extreme to the other with little or no middle ground. It is either very hot and humied (90 degrees plus with 70% humidity) or very cold (35-40 degrees with 70% humidity). It doesn't rain as much as we would like it to but when it does it is glorious! You must grow a pair of gills to live here but we call it home and so do our happy Blue Bell Ice Cream Read More

Don't Move Here - 2/19/2010
It's an OK place to visit, esp. in the spring-very pretty. Anyone with allergies should stay away-all year. Town is also not stranger-friendly. They are very narrow-minded here. No good jobs either-they don't believe in paying a living wage even though they could afford to in many places. Too many rich people live in this area that have no common sense. They didn't earn their wealth-just inherited it. Rich and stupid is a bad combination! Do not move Read More

Brenham, Washington County, Texas, "GOD'S Country! - 5/2/2007
The people are down to earth, friendly and the country is the most beautiful you will find in Texas. Rolling hills, beautiful views, outstanding cultural amenities, antique shops and lots of recreational opportunities, to name a few of it's attributes.

It is the "Birthplace of Texas". The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed by Sam Houston and the other framers of the constitution in Washington County near the famous Brazos River. Washington County began the first Independent School District in Texas!

Wonderful state parks including "Washington on the Brazos State Park and Museum" where visitors can see the history of the area and information about how it all began. "Washington on the Brazos" is a beautiful place for family gatherings and offers a great education for "old and young" visitors as well.
