Corruption Rules
Star Rating - 7/8/2018
Corruption is the rule, not the exception in St. George. From the city government to the college to the school district to the absolute lack of any separation between church and state, problems are everywhere here. It is nice it doesn't snow, however, when your children are out of school for the summer (and have the most time and need to be outside) the weather is far too hot and dangerous for them to play outside. There are a lack of any kind of jobs or industry in the area, and the limites jobs there are pay very low, even compared to the rest of Utah. Aside from hiking and plays, not much else to do. This area loves chains and there's lots of them. Vegas is a nice distance if you need an airport (St. George's is a joke). It may be a lovely place to sit in a rocker and crochet, but I would not chose to raise a family here again. If you are an avid cyclist, hiker or climber, it may be a good spot too. Otherwise, just take a vacation to see everything. Zion is neat and so is the North Rim and Snow Canyon. The downtown district is a bust. They just can't get it right. Doc Utah is fun. Shopping is pretty limited. Amazon will save you. Seasonal allergies are shockingly bad here. Not sure why that is. Unfortunately they are the worst during the limited comfortable weather. There are a lot of "almosts" here. But really it is just disappointing all around.

So this sounds like a liberal argument, a platitude without any specific examples. Really it comes off as you dont like because of the religious background. You might have a problem almost the entire founding fathers of our country that also held strong religious beliefs. I dont live in Utah but I really dont believe a thing you just wrote here. I would say to you find a different place to live. Lastly I can give you a more well rounded approach to this town then you have never having set foot in it. 1. The location is awsome. You are withing 200 miles of Vegas, 400 miles from Los Angeles, 400 miles of the grand canyon, and 200 miles from Salt Lake city. 2. It is very temperate in temperature in the winter, and although hot in the summer a dry heat. 3. You are speaking about Mormons who primary live in Utah as at least a very high population demographic of the state. As I understand it Mormons have to answer questions regarding honesty and integrity about their families and social interactions in their temple admittance. I havent met too many Mormons that have left me with any sort of impression like you have.

There are still places in this country where truth and honor, adherence to law, love of GOD, respect of our constitution still matter. St Gerorge is a haven for those who love individual thought, acceptance of all religions, do not refuse conservatives and the right they have. Liberals claim freedom of thought and expression as long as it is exactly what they believe. That is facist, Hitlerian, anti- American . California, where I am leaving for St George is a disaster long ruled by liberals ruining our country

What are examples of some of the corrupt practices? We've been here 16 months and haven't noticed.

St George and the surrounding towns are amazing. The only problems with it here are the lack of public transportation outside of downtown area and the allergies from the sand being blown around. It is part of the Mojave desert so that's to be expected. The police are actually kind here.

The very biggest problem for St George is the people holding the highest seats in the city hall are not trying to attract businesses that have good paying jobs. They should offer lower corporate tax rates to attract businesses. But they won’t because they don’t want the city to grow, as long as they themselves are getting by that’s all that matters. People retire here and over pay for a retirement house making houses out of reach for middle aged people working at the low paying jobs. It’s that simple. There is no industry here and pay is poor and there is no care by the city council to attract good jobs. It’s all minimum wage jobs. And a lack of care to change that. There is a number of universities here and not too many graduates get a career her. They leave to make more money elsewhere.

Amen! Every single thing you said about St. George is absolutely true. I have lived here for about 25 years, and have watched a once nice little community "go to H in a handbasket" over the past decade. The city government only cares about two things: making money from real estate development & wealthy real estate investors, and making money from wealthy tourists. If you are one of the great majority who does not profit from real estate or tourism, you are out of luck. Do you need a full time job? A living wage? Affordable housing? Health insurance? Forget about it. There is a shortage of everything here: Jobs, housing, doctors, service providers, parking lots and room to drive your car. And the best thing of all: The City of St. George does not care about your problems. Just show them the money!
