Review of Seattle, Washington

moving from Austin TX to Seattle WA

Wow, I googled the opposite, from Austin to Seattle. Let me tell you the differences. Summer Seattle rocks with its weather/cool temps. Other than that, Seattle is full of young punks and even older people who are very mean - I truly mean MEAN not just discourteous - compared to the loving natural culture of Texas, especially Austin. In Seattle from Austin, you see the map with all the water ... you'll never see a tad of it unless you buy a big multi-million dollar home on the water. Same as in Austin, but all the water is misleading. Traffic - a jillion times worse in Seattle - yes Austin, I really mean this! There are few freeways, or you have to use ***** boats to get your car from the really nice inexpensive homes to the city. It is a pain. There IS a football team, but the QB is a real jerk. You from Austin will love the weather, this is true if you hate sunshine. I hate sun, so this makes me happy. The business climate hugely SUCKS. It is horrible. Whatever business you are doing, expect times 10 more competitors, Seattle-ites to hate you because you are new, and do not move here unless you can live on your savings for a year or so, plus. Living expenses higher. UGLY UGLY UGLY homes in Seattle, all is ugly here including downtown. It's old, very very very UGLY. Not even close to Austin's beautiful new homes all over the place with limestone rocks and loveliness. No here, very few new any's and all even if new is very UGLY.
The people are the worst. Seattle, get a grip. Lose your attitude. You are losers. Get over yourselves. Texan friends, people in Seattle are the rudest and truly stupidest (what is with their low IQ?) people I have ever met in my life. Enlightened = Austin people. Thugs/stupidity = Seattle people.
Seattle thugs should all be put in a rehab program to learn how the rest of the country -especially Texas - naturally interacts with kindness. It would be a blast of newness for these hard core very mean idiots.

You lost me at, "...the QB is a real jerk." ... Russell Wilson is a jerk??? You lost all credibility right there, my friend! The guy is a class act through and through.

Having lived in both Austin and Seattle, I concur on the friendliness of Austin, it is pretty too, love Barton Springs.....Ok that is where it ends. Some of the houses in Seattle are the most beautiful... Austin is more brick and mortar. As far as competitors that is what competition is. Texas has horrible weather. I had to sit in a car while a tornado when near by on the freeway because I could not drive 2 blocks. Scary experience. People die in the flooding, it is so hot in the summer you sweat out your shirt between the car and the house. Give me the reserved people of Seattle any day....

I was born and raised in Seattle! I loved it so much but left for grad school. I told people how friendly we are and we love everyone. I can't imagine a Seattle Freeze! Maybe some people are snooty? I was thinking about moving back but after all of the reviews I think I will look elsewhere! But everytime I visit? I love it so much!

Hi I am Canadian ( visited Seattle few times back in 2007/2008) and lived in Seattle's twin city across the border, Vancouver. From what you said about Seattle certain similarities spring to mind, i.e. the snootyness, unfriendly attitude to newcomers and the over-inflated prices for everything is really bad in both cities. I am seriously thinking about getting a job in US, but preferably in the warmer, snow and ice free parts. So Austin seems like a catch in your view eh ? ( hopefully it is not crime ridden as so many US cities are, mind you I have been spoiled here in Canada, in our biggest city Toronto with close to 5 mill people we just have about 50 gun crime related deaths every year, quite amazing) . I think I will investigate my options. I really liked the late summer weather in Dallas back in 2010, very pleasant, so I can imagine living in Texas.
