Best in West(ern Mass)

My husband and I moved to New England in 2005 from California for my husband's job training. While we knew it would be a huge change for many reasons- from big cities to small towns, from sunny and mild to humid and hot/feesing in the snow- we were pleasantly surprised to find the little gem of Northampton, Mass. When we first moved out this way, we lived in Suffield, CT- a sleepy suburban/rural town on the border between Mass and CT. It was very relaxing to say the least, but of course also quite boring. As a young married couple with no children, we definitely felt the lack of excitement. Most of the people we met through work lived in the Northampton area- which is packed with restaurants, bars, pubs, shops and definitely more young married and singles. Northampton is definitely more expensive than other areas of Western Mass, but for us, it's worth it to be walking distance to the fun. It's a very busy place on the weekends, and parking is often difficult to find (nothing like finding parking in any major CA city though). Other nearby areas to check out- Amhearst and Easthampton.
