I live in California, and I am very friendly. But it is hard for me in this state because of the people, so I went to the Mobile area for a family visit and to possibly relocate. It was so great to be around friendly, polite, helpful, acknowledging people versus the very rude, zombie, drugged out, unhelpful, I acknowledging hippies in California where I live. While there, I was addressed with friendly hellos, given things, and received a hug from a security agent at the Mobile airport. I felt at home. Perhaps your experience was the fact that you were from Liberal California. Conservative states resent Liberals who screw up their states then go to their states and try to change them to what they left.

You are correct. Southern hospitality is a joke. Adults in my neighborhood are cliquish, and remind me of being back in high school. Alabama in general is a poor state in every sense of the word. I have lived in Mobile for 6 years. We “enjoy” a 10% sales tax on everything, to include groceries and medications. Meanwhile, our property taxes are absurdly low. The good old boy system is a live and well in Alabama. If you have a progressive bone in your body, run away. If you are a self righteous wind bag who occasionally enjoys wearing white sheets, welcome to your new home. I regret ever moving to Mobile and count the months until I am retirement eligible.

Well frankly as a native born and raised citizen of the city I can tell not everyone is arrogant there are alot hard working class and middle class people here as well not just your old money white families who act as if there a gift from heaven and we should ahh at there vast wealth so give it some time but I would ask you why you chose Mobile Alabama as your new home becuse frankly were not actually on Forbes top cities to live and work our really a very desirable market like say Savannah Georgia our may Charleston our New Orleans were what I would say the red headed step child of the south the one everybody hates .

I appreciate your honesty. I am also from CA and am considering Mobile, AL just for the home prices. But, there doesn't seem to be a real industry there. What do people do for a living? What industry outside of education, law enforcement, agriculture and factory work exists? There seems to be no real draw to Mobile besides the ridiculously low priced homes. Not sure that is enough when you consider the conservative laws they are creating.
