Do you not want my business?
Star Rating - 10/20/2009
My experience in Decatur has been a rather odd one. I have meet some really nice people, however I have wondered how anyone stays in business in this town. Here's a quick run down of my encounters:
1. Needed floors redone in my RV, Called a flooring company, to come and measure... they never showed.
2. went into an Rv Store to inquire about purchasing a table for my RV that was made of wood: The response; "Well..... they are really expensive, you can probably find one cheaper if you look around...." I told him that I had and that a table that size was hard to find. He continued to discourage me. Now, I really did not want to look around, but he talked me right out of the sale. Not because I did not want to spend the money, but because I was becoming annoyed with his "no sale" sale's tactic
3. Finally got a flooring company to do the floor, They did not return calls, got the details wrong, when I said something to them, they acted as if I was being difficult with the famous question " what can we do to make it better?" well, for starters don't tell me you are going to call me on a certain day and they 3 or 4 days later I have to call you.
4. Walked into U haul on Beltline, ordered a hitch for my car, they said it would be there in 2 days and they would call me. 7 days later I called them, they said it went to the wrong address, they corrected it, Said it would be in 2-3 days, more than a week went buy, I called them, this went on for a month, After all that, I said forget it and had a friend order it and put in on.
5. Called a different Rv store, (there are only two in town) and told them that I wanted someone to come out and put an awning on my RV. Their response...Well,,,, I don't know when he can get out there, can you bring it in? ( I said no) Well.... you know we charge a 50.00 trip charge. ( I said Ok) and you know they start charging labor from the time they leave the shop...It would be cheaper if you could bring it in......, ( I hung up!)

There are more, but do you get where I am going with this. What is wrong with these people, How do they stay in business, either they provide terrible customer service or they want you to go somewhere esle.

PEOPLE OF DECATUR:
WHEN FOLKS COME TO YOUR TOWN TO SPEND THEIR MONEY....TAKE IT!!!!!!!!

I received the same type of treatment in Winfield, Alabama. Must be an Alabama thing. Called a window tinting business to get my car tinted. Called twice and no return call. Finally a month later his mother called me back and told me her son had problems. First of all, if you're that pathetic that your Mom has to call me (and you're a grown man) I don't want you tinting my car. We tried a second company at a town a little larger. Called the place twice and left a message, no one returned my call. A few months later I called the place and the owner answered. Friendly fellow. I asked him if he was the same owner a few months ago. He said yes. I then told him I called you twice about getting my windows tinted and you never called me back. Oh I'm sorry, my phone was probably messed up. (yeah right). I found his explanation phony. I finally found a young man who did tinting in another town and he did a really good job. My husband has a small compact car. We had received a quote in Florida to have it painted for about $800. One of those large paint and body shops. We figured we'd have it done locally to keep the money in the city. The owner acted very odd to my husband and did what the RV place did to you, tried to talk him out of a sale. He then quoted my husband $3,000 for the paint job. (get real fella). I just assumed after that he didn't want any business from an outsider. I purchased 4 new tires for my car at a local tire place. A few months later I got a flat and discovered there was a screw inside the tire that worked it's way out. I don't believe that was an accident. I think they purposely wanted to screw me over as I was an outsider. You would think in this economy, people would be glad to have a cash customer that has the money to buy the things they need. But OH NO, let's play games, stay poor and not deliver service to a reasonable person who has cash. This is why I don't shop at small restaurants or stores. I have business done at large chains and eat at large chain restaurants. I'd like to support small town businesses in Alabama, but they don't want me around. Sad but true.
