Review of Canton, Georgia

Not an open minded area, nor very educated
Star Rating - 6/21/2009
I have lived in Canton for over 11 years and am ready to move on. I personally find the culture to be backwards, and the people --not so open minded. Religion is very important here and seems to dominate the county in education and politics. As a college professor, education is below average and I am simply amazed that many are allowed to graduate, but parents get their way first. Whine and your kid will graduate.
You will be okay if you are Baptist and devout, born and raised in the south. The county is growing rapidly but the infrastructure is not. Police have become very aggressive in the time I have been here. The county government seeks to oust illegals, almost embarrassing but at the taxpayers expense. I find racism still exists in the south. (and I am white) You can tell I have become very disillusioned with this area over time. ---but my opinion. Hot and humid too!

I have to disagree with you there. I am baptist and my children did not just "get to graduate" because they were born again believers. It is a compliment to say we "Christian folk" are not "open minded." Open mindedness leads to destruction! One can agree to disagree without getting sucked into a false sense of society's viewpoints, which are many might I add. I have friends who are Muslim, Indian, Buddhists and the list goes on...do I agree with their "ways" or their "religion" no, and I am not going to be "open minded" to their viewpoints either, instead, I respect their viewpoints without shoving mine down their throats. The way to getting others to see your point of view, is to live by it...be an example...that gets people interested and asking questions if they are truly interested in what you believe. If they are not interested, they will not ask but at least you showed them through your actions, what kind of a person you are and what you do believe. Frankly, I think most "religions" agree that we should love one another and treat our neighbors kindly...that's a universal belief having nothing to do with "religion" per se.
