Review of Gig Harbor, Washington

Where are the cultured people in WA?
Star Rating - 4/15/2006
We have lived in Gig Harbor WA for 3 years now, and the lack of state universities in the Tacoma area makes for a very uncultured and uneducated population. The people here are rude and all dress in gray or brown. We lived in Raleigh NC before this and the caliber of people was much better. I can't wait to move away from here.

I disagree. Gig Harbor has some of the friendliest people I have ever met and I have lived all over the place. I see a lot of colorfully dressed people all the time, but would not associate dressing colorfully with education or demeanor. Also, the University of Washington, Tacoma campus is growing rapidly and has helped to transform downtown Tacoma into a thriving community. There is also a branch of Evergreen State College downtown. You might also like to know that four times as many people living in Gig Harbor hold Bachelor degrees than the National average. I'm sorry you don't like it here, but I think you need to look inside yourself for your unhappiness rather than blaming other people.

Hey Brenna! You have a great attitude...would love to hear more about gig harbor. I am single with a child, and do you think I would be welcome there? I am from Los Angeles, and I want to raise my son in a great community.

I totally agree with Tom! I've lived here for six months and the people, especially the older females, are extremely rude and unprofessional. I miss the quality of services in CA. There is no culture--they are backwoods breeders here in spite of the affluence. It's totally overcrowded and I can't wait to move back to CA in a couple months! Brenna you should be named Pollyanna!

For those here who have commented about the weather: Please, yes, it's western Washington, and that is the weather here. It is not about Gig Harbor. That is the weather in all of western Washington. If you can't hack it, fine. Move on. I am currently living in Colorado with 300+ days of sunshine, and I can't complain about the weather here. That said, I long for my home state of Washington, where the landscape is green, vibrant green, and now brown nearly year-round like Colorado. To each his own. I don't fault Coloradans for their love of their state, but I think Washington can't be beat for beauty. I miss all kinds of things that people from other states might not love: the fishy low-tide smell, fresh (I mean fresh) seafood, and most of all that deep green of everything (even the median between the highways). On Gig Harbor, I grew up there, and I still find it quaint even though it has changed so much since I was a kid. Every time I go back, I must sit at the Tides Tavern and have a beer on their deck, looking out over the harbor. Bliss!
