I grew up in Bessemer and it really was a nice place back in the day. But Bessemer has changed and seems to be a magnet for the "down and outs" from nearby downtown Birmingham. Crime and drugs are rampant in the area and the normal folk are leaving in droves. My advice, take a gun with you if you visit Bessemer.
