| 9/2/2011 | other | I myself attended this school from K-8 grades, and when my son is ready for preschool, I will be enrolling him in Dayspring, and then into MCA. The A BEKA book curriculum is SUPERIOR. There is a strong emphasis on phonics, which I feel is integral in fostering a love of reading in a child. The Scripture and poetry memorizations required at this school have stayed with me these 15 years since I've graduated. All of my teachers were caring and devoted to the children. The discipline is strict, yet fair. I feel so fortunate to have received such a solid foundation educationally, socially, and spiritually. I have such fond memories of this school. I can't wait to send my own boy. |
| 9/9/2010 | parent | First yr. here, but I like what I see so far. They offer guitar and piano lessons afterschool ($25/week) and on-site tutoring (apx 35/hr). Everyday they practice cursive and study the Bible. Parents are encouraged to attend wkly prayer mtgs. They have a new gym and coming soon..a new playground! The school is very diverse racially and a good size (191 students for K-8), compared to apx 800 students in the K-5 elem. school in Edison. Tuition and aftercare are affordable at $4/hour or $170 monthly (before care and after care combined). I like that they also have a nursery/pre-school sister school on site and provide sibling discounts. At the parent orientation, I was happy to see many dads. Second gr. has art, Spanish, chapel, gym, and some new computers in the class. K-2 students get textbooks, not just worksheets. Wish they had daily hot lunches, only offered occasionally now. |
| 6/18/2010 | principal | To our knowledge, we did not have any student leave due to not being able to handle his/her behavior. However, we did have an incident where the parent was disrespectful to administration and we asked the family to leave the school. At MCA, we know that both the school and the parent must work together for the success of the student. Without one, it just doesn't work. |
| 3/10/2010 | other | Potentially dangerous behavior issues and the staff is unable to address. My child will be withdrawing due to safety and character building concerns. |
| 1/26/2010 | parent | After having been homeschooled up until the 6th grade, I decided to enroll my 7th grade son into Metuchen Christian Academy. As you can imagine, this was a difficult decision, and also worrisome. I can very gratefully say that this school has been an absolute blessing. My son is thriving academically. Also, I absolutely adore the strict policies the school has in certain areas. At the same time, the school/staff is very supportive. I highly recocmmend MCA to any parent looking for a Godly, yet strong academic environment. |
| 5/30/2009 | parent | As a past parent of MCA, I have always appreciated the administration and staff and expecially the way they care for all the children that are there. My daughter looks back at her 5 years at the school with love for her teachers and the great eduation she received there. The tuition was the best bargain around, so I assume that is why trips, extracurriculum activities and 'food' are not included (which is the complaint of the next post.) They also worked with me financially as long as I kept in contact with them if I had a situation. The school is great with loving teachers and administration!! And the new addition is wonderful! |
| 2/7/2009 | parent | Some teachers are very caring and professional. This school, in my opinion, only thinks of ways to squeeze as much money out of one's family pockets. And with that said, if at any point in time a payment is not recieved according to the long tedious contract, your child will not be allowed in the school. Any physical activities has to be paid by the parents, as well as, food for your child. As much money this school generates the food and extra physical activities should be already implemented. In other words, money is more of a priority in my opinion. |
| 1/15/2009 | parent | I really love this school, My son really enjoy going to school. Curriculum is excellent. Discipline is better and kids grow up god fearing. I would highly recommend this school |
| 5/13/2008 | parent | This school does not live up to what it preaches. If you ever have a problem and expect it to get resolved, you should probably send your children to public school. |
| 3/4/2008 | parent | I love this school, the principal, Mrs. McFarren is such a lovely God fearing woman and is willing to speak with you at any time. Mrs. Kenny, the 'K' teacher is an awesome teacher and loves the Lord. My daughter always comes home telling me all the new things she learned about Jesus and her school work. My daughter is 5 and is reading! I would highly recommed this school. Please feel free to contact me at Raquel.Kromer@FMR.com should you have any questions. |
| 8/29/2007 | parent | MCA was one of the most wonderful school experiences my children have had. The curriculum was challenging and the staff supportive. We have moved to another state where the education does not compare to that of MCA . We truly miss the school as well as the extended family we had there. |
| 4/17/2007 | parent | I am very happy I found MCA. My kids enjoy it and they have advanced academically a tremendous amount. It has been a challenge coming in the middle of the year, but what a great reward! Parents help out the school and really give you that warm family feeling. I love its diversity, really teaches kids about the real world. |
| 3/11/2006 | parent | Good school for grades K-8. Firm disapline and Christian orintated. |
| 2/3/2006 | parent | Being a christian school, it has more emphasis on faith, support, rules and guidance. However, the size (1 class per grade) limits the opportunities for kids. Teachers in the lower grades (K, 1, 2) are great but a couple of good teachers have recently moved on from the upper grades. Principal and staff is very supportive. |
| 12/16/2005 | parent | This is a great school. The academics are very challenging. I believe the children are being prepared for higher learning at the most essential time in their lives. The focus on reading and writing is most beneficial in preparation for standardized testing. I especially like the Christian values that are taught through every subject studied. The teachers are very caring and for the most part are very accessible. The tuition is reasonable compared to other private schools. Although the teacher to student ratio is above the ideal, the teachers have good control over the classrooms and still break students up into groups to make learning more effective. |
| 3/8/2004 | parent | MCA is an excellent school that provides a loving and nurturing learning environment, that offers superior academic curriculum. Kids in kindergarten are able to read by November of that school year and kids in first grade write in cursive legibly and are able to compose their own short stories by the end of the first quarter. Every child feels important. I am so blessed to watch young children look up to the older kids as their own older siblings and older kids treating younger ones as their own younger siblings. As a parent, it gives me peace of mind to know that my kids are left all day in a school environment that encourages respect and love for each individual, and love of God above all else. |
