| 9/20/2010 | other | Though my post will seem excessively negative, I must begin by saying that Ellison High School has a handful of excellent educators in the Advanced Placement and Dual Credit classes that strive to help students succeed. That being said, Ellison is an overcrowded, elitist school, where the strong succeed and the weak are pushed under the radar. The vast majority of the teachers at EHS are unmotivated and lack passion. They have low standards and are accepting of mediocrity. Though Ellison presents high scores on high stakes testing, it is most likely because the whole year is spent teaching to the test. Students are not encouraged to become life-long learners and value their knowledge, but are taught to regurgitate facts. My experience at Ellison High School was not dismal, but not stellar either. I hope that EHS rises to the challenge of providing an excellent education to ALL of its students. |
| 5/13/2010 | parent | I have a student at Ellison...she loves it there and I love it. The parents or students that don't like Ellison..Are most likely the ones that aren't involved in anything. The ones you never hear from unless they are calling to complain about a teacher or that their student got in trouble over something.. and surprise their child acts just like them!!.... So they really have no room to talk. |
| 4/30/2009 | student | Woah buddie!?!?! Did i hear ellison isnt so great!?!?! Geee...Faulty information... Here are da facts! 1. Ellison is very crowded, however the teachers are awesum, and help you strive to be the best. 2. The students are very diverse but everyone is vewy nice n if you hang out with da right ppl then theres nothin to worry about. 3. Sports--- we soooo b.E.A.S.T.!!! 4. | 12/15/2008 | parent | Elison HS is an awesom school It is very diverse . It is a bit crowded but all the high schools in this area are. Parent involvement sill exists here and you should not complain ifyou do not volunteer. The principal is outstanding. I would reccomend it to all over the other 3 highschools |
| 12/15/2008 | parent | This school is going to the dogs! Overcrowding is the worst problem |
| 11/9/2008 | student | Not that great of a school, the faculty is pretty low, and there are only a couple of good teachers. |
| 9/28/2008 | parent | Ellison High School is not the best school in the district. It is too over-crowded and not the best environment for a student to be in. |
| 6/6/2008 | student | I love Ellison. I'm in the band, student council, avid, and the bowling team and it's so much fun. Some teachers are mean but others, and majority, are actually in it for the kids. I am in french 3, ap english/history/calculus and pre - ap pre-cal and I have confidence in the people that teach me. People that talk down about Ellison don't know what they are talking about. It's amazinngg |
| 4/24/2008 | student | Ellison high school has the most school spirit. Our teachers are great and I'm looking foward to graduating from Ellison. |
| 3/2/2008 | student | This year is my first at Ellison and I hope to graduate from Ellison ,its the best school in the district in my opinion I moved from Harker Heights just to attend Ellison I have the best learning advantage ever attending this school and I'm going to take advantage of it, its above average schools so I encourage parents to let the children attend Ellison High School home of the Screaming Eagles Class of 2011 |
| 10/27/2007 | student | I feel so privileged to be a student at Ellison! There is such a variety of opportunities available for all of the students. We have a great athletic program, a lot of awesome clubs that are not only fun, but also look good on college applications, and our music department is no doubt the best in the district. There's no discriminations; every one has equal opportunities. It's up to the student whether they choose to apply themselves or not. All of my past and present teachers are dedicated and truly want their students to succeed, and almost all will use their free time giving students extra help. And the administrators are the best, hands down. They have a genuine care for the welfare of their students and eliminate the problems that are sure to come every now and then. They don't get enough credit! I LOVE EHS; GO EAGLES! |
| 10/5/2007 | former student | Overall with the education, many teachers do not help the students at all or do not teach. Some just give work and expect the students just to do it. |
| 8/6/2007 | parent | I have one son who will be a senior and another entering EHS as a freshman in 2007. While I don't think there is enough homework given, students who are motivated will receive a fine education and experience here. Students who just want to get through each day, can. Teachers will go out of their way to assist when there is a desire on the students part to learn. |
| 6/8/2007 | parent | I have 4 children and three are Ellison eagles. One graduated last year with Honors and another this year as well and he too graduated with Honors. We support the school the athletic teams the booster clubs and all the activities are chlidren are involved in. If you want to achieve at Ellison you just need to apply yourself. We are grateful that our children have done so well and the two who have graduated have gone onto college or are about to. We know the foundation we have given them along with the academic base they recieved in Ellison will continue to sustain them in the greater world out there. Go Eagles!!! |
| 5/29/2007 | parent | My son finished his freshman year and he done well. He transferred in from Missouri and it was a very big change and all the teachers were very helpful and available. His counselor was awesome. Ellison has alot to offer if you choose, hopefully next year he will be able to get more involved. It all depends on the student and the parent if you want to learn and be involved with your child. |
| 2/27/2007 | student | As a current student of EHS, I feel this is the best school to attend if living in Killeen, and our test scores will prove that. The principle is awesome and down-to-earth, and he attempts to talk to every student. There are many clubs and organizations only offered at EHS and not the other schools, such as Leadership Academy. The teachers here are great and the majority of them do care for the students and try to get them the best possible education they can. |
| 11/17/2006 | former student | overall the school was misleading and uncontrolled. Teachers had no control over the class rooms. They did not know how to conduct a correct environment for students to learn they focus on Administrative Testing far more that educational purposes. Not enough Real Life Learning which is growing less and less in these schools today. Fights are unavoidable due to the things the teachers let get away with in class. They try to improve the discipline but in the wrong areas. You cant fix the problem if you do not know what it is and being a former student of Ellison high school I know that the problem they need to address is not the students its the teachers and staff. |
| 8/7/2006 | parent | One can speak highly of test scores, maybe EHS is doing okay.Faculty clearly does not have the best interest of our children at heart. |
| 1/18/2006 | parent | I know Ellison has wonderful teachers and activities, but there are too many fights. The band is wonderful! |
| 1/18/2006 | parent | A great school, but over crowded right now. |
| 1/10/2006 | former student | I believe based on the three years I attended Ellison it was the best school I would ever want to be at. The teachers are great and not over loaded with students. The counselors are very helpful. If it wasn't for my stepfather being in the Army I would still be attending EHS. After I graduate from school I am moving back to Killeen so my children can attend EHS. |
| 8/8/2004 | student | Ellison High School is the best school I've ever attended. Most people have judged this school because of the rumors or its apperance but I suppose our TAKS scores can speak for itself. The teachers are great at Ellison. They spend time with you if need be, their not quick to point the finger, we get second chances. Even though I will be attending Shoemaker HS I will always support my eagles. |
