The region has a history that dates back to the 19th century when it started as a trading post. Over the years, it grew into a significant port city because of its strategic location along the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. This growth was instrumental in the development of the Pacific Northwest.

Geographically, Portland is nestled between the Cascade Mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. This gives residents and visitors alike easy access to both mountainous landscapes and coastal beaches. Living in Portland offers a unique blend of urban amenities coupled with access to the great outdoors. However, new residents should be ready for the city's climate, characterized by mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Portland sees a lot of rainfall, especially during the winter months. While the cost of living can be high, many find the high quality of life and abundance of amenities worth it.
