Do not recommend. - 2/5/2020

I’ve lived here for almost 2 years now. This is by far the worst place I’ve ever lived. Nothing to do. ONE OB/GYN for the whole town. My skin & hair have never been so dry or unhealthy because of the water quality here. It’s just awful.

Get out and explore! Clovis is close to a lot! - 4/28/2019

Clovis isn't going to win any beauty pageants, and driving along the highways you will see many old ugly buildings, and you will be driving through the poorest areas. If you are single you will struggle in Clovis if lazy, and not outgoing (not many places to go for big night life, and not many singles). If you are single you will need to make some effort to meet people. If not religious, don't rule religious activities and maybe you might learn some interesting history of religion. Go to church to meet people, join a club, new job, or volunteer. Clovis is great base for touring the WORLD CLASS museums, national parks, snow skiing, competitive HS sports, World class Star gazing outside the city(just look up as well in the city), World class sunsets, 300 plus days of sunshine, Casino's, archeology digs/museums, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands National park, 2 large lakes about 1 to 2 hours from Clovis, 1000's of day trips to visit New Mexico's finest places and Texas. Santa Fe and Albuquerque are just 3 hour drive that offers everything you can think of including millions of acres of public Forrests, and Rafting. New Mexico has unlimited outdoor activities that cost almost nothing because 60 percent of NM land is controlled by the Federal and State to explore(Texas land is 95 percent privately owned, so not many places to go that are free or not trespassing). The summer nights cool down every night to the 60's due to Clovis high altitude over 4000 feet(almost as high as ABQ, and Denver). Clovis does get the stink smell when the wind blows from the south from the stock yard smell(rarely occurs). Clovis does have a noisy railroad yard at times. Clovis is windy in the Spring and during storms. Clovis can be boring(same as everywhere), but that isn't always a problem because of all the activities you can drive dto in a short period of time. Clovis does have a medical Marijuana store as well if needed, and Colorado is a short drive(NM may go full Rec 2019 for all the lovers of the green). NM may sell a lot of green when that gets passed. Clovis is 1 and 1/2 hours to 3 hours away from international airports to fly anywhere(ABQ,Lubbock, Amarillo, Santa Fe). To all the service men/women at Canon Air Force base, Thank you for your service. IF you hate Clovis, get off your ass and explore and quit whining there is nothing to do. It is your fault you are in Clovis, you signed up. No one is to blame but yourself, if you hate your life. We don't like your bad attitudes especially toward a city that is what it is. A High plains farming/ranching community with a air force base out in the middle of no where. Hallelujah! My family came her in the 1800's in a wagon for a HOMESTEAD, thus I didn't have a choice until I was 18 y/o. I packed my bags, and only visit my parents/friends for a Holiday/Ski trip. Years later I realized, Clovis, Roswell, Carlsbad, and others are not as bad as my 18 y/o eyes were witnessing if married and a working in a high paying job. TL | Plano, TX

Worst place I have ever lived - 12/24/2018

Literally the worst place I have EVER lived. Not only is there almost nothing to do, going out anywhere to do anything.. like grocery shopping, is just awful. I have never in my life encountered so many rude people everywhere I go. I can’t go out to eat, can’t shop, I can’t even take my dog to the park without encountering rude people who make me feel so unbearable welcome. There is NOTHING about this place that is worth mentioning I’m a favorable light.

I'll tell you a story - 12/28/2017

A man was traveling by foot between two towns. On his way, he passed a fellow traveler bound for the town from which the man was walking. "How do you find the town which you just left?" asked the traveler. The man replied with his own question. "How did you find the town you just left?" "It was awful!" the traveler exclaimed. "The people were mean and unfriendly, the town was dirty and low-rent, and I'll never go back!" "So shall you find the town where you are headed," said the man, sadly. The man walked on, and eventually, he passed another traveler headed to the same town. Again, he was asked, "How do you find the town which you just left?" And again, the man replied, "How did you find the town you just left?" The second traveler exclaimed, "It was wonderful! The people were welcoming and friendly, the town was small but nice, and I was remiss to have to leave it!" "So shall you find the town where you are headed," said the man. The point is, how you perceive where you are is often a reflection of you, your expectations and your attitudes. Clovis is a small, the housing is overpriced, there is crime and poverty, and there is not much to do that comes without some creativity. That said, it is a good place to live, a place where you'll find neighbors and friends. I've lived other places - bigger, busier places, but this will always be home.

This town is horrible! - 4/6/2015

Welcome to Clovis, NM (88101) where peaceful farming community meets sleepy border town. Don't be fooled by the propaganda; it’s all smoke and mirrors! This town is horrible! Public utilities are overly expensive, and unreliable. Power fluctuations and winter outages are a familiar occurrence. Internet service often slows to a crawl. Medical care is appalling! Stated again for emphasis; medical care is appalling! One more time; medical care is appalling! Fearful, wise, and experienced residents routinely drive for hours to seek treatment elsewhere. Quality shopping and entertainment are a fantasy. Good luck finding a descent radio station that plays something other than Country music. Dining is a boring monotony of Mexican food. Housing is grossly overpriced, and poorly built; corners seem to be cut at every opportunity. Building codes are weak, and unconvincingly enforced. Businesses are unfairly opportunistic, and prey upon the population. Slums and slumlords abound. Public and private lands are laden with trash and debris. Animal control is a laughable. City roads seem to be willfully neglected, and filled with potholes. Many intersections are insufficiently marked, or completely uncontrolled. Local media seems biased and agenda driven. There’s no need to mention the “honesty and integrity” of the local politicians, city officials, law enforcement, or lawyers; I’m sure you can probably imagine. The community is horrible! Most of the townspeople are rude, thoughtless, self-consumed, and flippantly ignore the concepts of courteous coexistence and safe driving. It’s hard to say what’s worse, the self-importance of the Christians, or the overwhelming poverty of the “un-documented” workforce. The pretentious white collar workers are the committed puppets of the wealthy property and business owners. Blue collar workers are noticeably undereducated, and poorly trained. Skilled labor is virtually non-existent. Pride in workmanship is a completely foreign concept. Substance abuse is excessive. The public schools seem to breed a disproportionate number of thugs and dropouts. Teen pregnancy is commonplace. The crime and drug problem almost seem to be purposely undisclosed, and concealed from the public eye. Nevertheless, stories of violent home invasion, rape, armed robbery, burglary, auto theft, and vandalism abound amongst the townsfolk. Meth labs and gangbangers saturate the community, and sex offenders sadly seem to be everywhere. Many businesses post disclaimers stating no responsibility for valuables left in parked vehicles, while at the same time allowing “sales-people” to attach advertisements to vehicles in their parking lot (even though attaching such advertisements to vehicles is against city code). Ladies, NEVER let go of your purse when you go shopping! The environment is horrible! Dirt, dust, and tumbleweeds driven by 50+ MPH winds are the norm. Any meaningful rainfall is normally accompanied by destructive winds or damaging hail. The town’s water supply is drying up. Extreme water hardness ruins appliances and plumbing fixtures. The fluoride concentration in the city’s drinking water exceeds the healthy level recommended by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; however the fluoride concentration in the city’s drinking water is conveniently below the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s enforceable limit. Can you say dental & skeletal fluorosis? Prairie dogs infest both business and residential areas. Flies from the nearby dairies and cattle yards are a disgusting nuisance. One last thing, let’s not forget the nauseating repulsive stench of sunbaked cow manure that consumes every breath in the summer which eventually culminates in a fine layer of dried-up cow manure dust that coats nostrils, lungs, and every surface in the home. Welcome to seasonal allergies! On the lighter side, many people who grew up in Clovis, NM love the place, and mindlessly think its paradise. Go figure… In conclusion, perhaps the preceding comments should be deemed nothing more than a point of view. However, consider that HomeFacts.com reports the 2011 statistics for forcible rape and burglary in Clovis, NM at 200% above the national average! CriminalCheck.com can also provide a list of registered sex offenders. If you have any doubts I strongly urge you to do research, or simply ignore what you’ve just read, move to Clovis, NM, and join the herd. If you are not part of the pack, you are the prey. You have been warned!

Clovis, NM - 12/6/2011

I was born and raised here, since 1958. I'd like to say, that life is what you make of it. Yes, we are a small growing family oriented community. Diversity is alive and well in Clovis, NM.There are opportunities, but you have to go out and find them, nothing is handed to you. Then you appreciate that and life much more. Yes, there is crime, just like everywhere else. That can be changed if they want to change. ppl are friendly and will open their doors to you. Yes, we have lots of hypocrites, but who doesn't? Many restaurants and places to shop, not like a big city, but you can travel about an hour one way to Lubbock or Amarillo and another four hours the other way and be in Albuquerque. Schools and colleges and jobs. The cost of living.... well, that's a problem everywhere. We also have CAFB and that's a big plus with more new advanced businesses opening up many opportunities. Come visit, you may stay awhile!!

Hell - 11/14/2010

I have traveled the country and have visited many cities and states. I have never been in a place so bad in my life. The people are nice to your face, but if you are not from here they don't want you here and will never accept you. They are not social. They all talk about being christian but no one knows what that really means. You will not be welcomed by anyone in this hell hole no church no organization of any kind. The people here are slow to do anything if they got any slower they would be in a grave. The customer service is so bad they act like they are doing you a favor. You have to travel over a hundred miles to get a decent meal. The restaurants are horrible if a real health inspector went in to these places they would close them. The neighborhoods are dirty with broken cars in their yard and plenty of trash. You can clearly see there is no code enforcement. Dogs are running up and down the streets. Driving into the city it looks like a dump with run down buildings, trash, vehicles that haven't moved in a decade. The smell and flies make you want to scream. Driving in the parking lot of walmart is like a death wish. The people there wear their pajamas and slippers to the store. If you want to shop you have to go to Lubbock or Amarillo. The nicest people here are the ones not from here. If your military stick with the people from the military or you will not have any social outlets at all. I have never seen so many fat kids in a town this small before. It is clear that the community leaders that no pride in the town so the residents don't either. If you have children there is NOTHING for them to do no programs nothing. The best of this town is the community college. I am here with the military and can't wait to leave. I guess this has taught me that where I came from is heaven and it will nice to go home. And for the person who says if you don't like it do something about it, dream on no one will let you do anything to help the community or even volunteer. The attitude is your not from here leave your money and go home.

Clovis is horrible - 9/14/2010

People need to get real. Whoever likes Clovis needs to go out and look at the rest of the world. This horrible place is full of Meth addicts who like to hang out on play grounds while blowing smoke in their baby's face. Stay away if you can. The worst place I have ever been to.Many third world countries have cleaner living standards than people in Clovis, and the medical care is worse than I could have ever imagined. So, if you like Clovis, and you are one of these delusional people who claim that this rat hole is a great place to raise children, get some professional help!

Clovis is an awful place all around - 7/9/2010

Clovis is the reason we should slap the New out of New Mexico and give it back. I am stationed here and not here by choice and would kill to leave here and so would all of the military and if they say otherwise then they are humping the cows and are now a clovinite. All of the judges to the Cops are corrupt to the core. I hope everyday that a tornado blows this crap hole away.

Pass on Clovis if you have the choice!! - 4/23/2010

People say "Clovis isn't so bad." Well, let me be the honest voice here. I am not pleased with Clovis. We expected to like it - we had heard there was a moderate cost of living and that it was a great place for families. What we have found is quite the opposite. First, we paid $167,000 for a 1300 sq foot house - hardly what I would call "moderate" and especially considering how much more (better, newer, etc.) house we can get for that price in Lubbock, or San Antonio, or just about anywhere with more to offer than Clovis. Second, as for being great for families - we haven't seen that! We have a 6 year old and there are not many programs offered for his age. Where we used to live he had tons of options for sports and other events - here, it's limited at best. Also, the "Clovites" (those who are "from" here) are LESS than welcoming to outsiders - good luck blending in at a church or any other group. If you're not from here, go to a big church where there are lots of military families - at least then SOMEONE will likely talk to you. Oh... and my favorite -- there are SIX Red Cross Volunteers here and they are all from the base. None of the locals. I guess the locals are more self centered and don't really care. People groups like the Committee of Fifty have the power to pull together to save a base (that the townsfolks clearly don't want as evidenced by their general attitudes toward military people, their complete lack of customer service, and their fighting tooth and nail to keep any GOOD businesses that people want from coming into town), but they don't have the power to get their own community to step up to serve their OWN COMMUNITY? I have been here almost 2 years and am definitely "OVER" Clovis and done giving it a chance -- now I am just marking the days of my sentence on the wall until one day I can hopefully get the heck out of here!!!!

Clovis Living - 12/21/2008

All these negative people need to get real. Clovis is not a bad place to live in really. Sure like all other areas there are problems with crime and drugs, but divide that by the pop and then compare...not so bad after all. Don't like something..then don't sit and complain. Take a positive approach and try to make a difference. There's plenty of changes needed but do you know of a place that doesn't??? Be real, make the best of any situation you are in and the world really will be a better place even if there are a few rocks in the road!

Awful Place to Live - 9/24/2008

High crime rates. High use of Meth. I suspect that most of it comes from the lack of entertainment within 100 miles from the city. I spent a year there, and it was one the worst year of my life. The people in the city rely on the military to sustain them financially, which is probably why the politicians were able to con AFSOC into taking over the base. The town is pretty run down, and the real estate between 1st Street and 14th Street is undesirable due to it being run down and crime infested. The summers are really hot and the winters are really cold. The only thing close to good I can say about the place is there's alot of sun.

WHY LIVING IN CLOVIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED - 5/12/2008

While this area has a reasonable cost-of-living and crime is low, statistics are rising. The population has grown to over 50,000 - the police can't keep officers because the city does not pay enough - there is a shortage of officers. On the subject of health, the air quality is VERY poor. The medical care is among the worst in the nation. The doctors are 4th rate rejects who would not be accepted in any good medical institute. The hospital, Plain Regional Medical Center is a JOKE! Honestly, you would stand a better chance of surviving at Huntsville, Texas (where the executions are held) than at this sorry excuse of a hospital. They first had 13 violations by the state and then got another 37 citations. That is how bad the hospital, doctors and medical care in Clovis is. Most people here choose to go to Lubbock Texas, where the care is fair quality, but still not outstanding. We go to Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, the finest in the country, rated #1 in Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report for the past 30 years. There is very little to do in Clovis - the smell from cow manure can be very strong and the strong winds which kicks up dust contributes to cases of asthma. We only moved here so my wife could take care of her mother. We are planning to move to the east coast, where it is both beautiful, plenty to do, and close to Johns Hopkins Medicine!

Clovis is not a good place to live - 1/8/2006

Clovis, New Mexico is a very undesriable place to live. The schools here are inferior to many in the nation. I would wager to say that the schools in Mississippi are far superior (Now that is really saying something!) There are no fine restaurants in town to dine at. The best store to shop in here is Walmart. you have to drive 100 miles to either Lubbock, TX or Amarillo, TX to feel as if you are not in a lost civilization. The town smells like cow manuer 24/7 and the locals boast that the aforementioned stench is the smell of money. Clovis is truly the armpit of the USA
