2021: Niagara Falls post-covid - 7/1/2021
Niagara Falls is a place where we are careful about saying ‘things are looking up’ because we’ve said that before and whatever big project promised falls through or just never happens at all. This time, though, some new places are being built, although small hotels and such, it’s something. Let’s hope that keeps going.

This is a tough place to be from. The people across the border think they’re better than us, constantly think they’re too good for us and remind everyone that they should come there to view the waterfalls and not waste any time here. Whether some of that is simply racist and classist, I don’t know. I do find it interesting that none of them want the border to reopen while on our side there are protests every week to reopen the border so we can get our businesses going again. I think Covid has permanently damaged the relationship between Niagara Falls, Canada and Niagara Falls, USA. They’ve made it very clear they only care about themselves and would rather Read More

Ghetto and Corrupt City - 7/15/2010
Niagara Falls has very high crime and a steady increase in gang activity. Unemployment is very high, there is a lot of pollution and winters are too long. The falls itself is beautiful but that is it. The city is full of old run down buildings and too many pot holes. The corruption is at levels equal to that of Detroit and New Orleans. Housing is cheap but run down and taxes are through the roof with nothing but minimum wage jobs. Everyone is angry because they are poor and it is always cloudy. Too many tough guys and street fights. Look at someone wrong and be ready to throw down. Stay on the Canadian side and just come across for the falls attractions. Oh yeah, they do have great resturants that are very inexpensive (The Como, Michaels, and Gadawski's). Be on your guard.  Read More

NIagara Falls and specifically 11th and South Str - 11/19/2008
Niagara Falls is plagued by contamination for radioactive waste and dumping, high crime high taxes and corrupt politicians.

One would figure that a smaller town could improve whereas Detroit might never get better, but there is no evidence this is ever going to happen.

Real estate taxes need to go down first or people will not buy.

The falls are really great and that should motivate people but...

Does anyone know the area of 11th and South ? Is it average for the city? Better worse? There are 4 interesting buildings for sale on that corner although way overpriced- anyone know Read More

Stay Away - 10/29/2007
Niagara Falls is a very dangerous city, backed up by corrupt politicians. Brick fights on the street are not uncommon. Even Buffalo makes fun of the dysfunction in Niagara Falls. No jobs and high taxes add to the mix. The cost of living is low though. Houses are cheap, but generally run down and property taxes are crushingly high. There is a new High School though. Anything worthwhile in the city has been run down. There is a new casino, but the only thing around it is a pizza hut and run down stores with bars on the windows. Niagara Falls Canada is the total opposite and is actually quite well run and Read More

Declining tourist area - 9/6/2006
I'm told this area is better thought of by those who've visited than those who live here. There are many nice areas and friendly people. As everywhere, I guess, there is always a chance for us to make it better. I love many things about the area and currently wish for shorter winters. The variety of waterways is hard to beat, loads of trees and some hills to vary the landscape. Transportation is good, the economy variable and the health factors Read More

Niagara Falls, NY - 8/11/2006
Niagara Falls is part of Western New York State and is one of the most beautiful areas in the world. The city is located within 8 hrs of some of the most exciting cities in the world (New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Toronto, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, etc.). Niagara Falls is a depressed city that has numerous problems … corrupt politicians, no jobs, and no activities or future for the youth of the area, etc. I’m currently unemployed and my family is looking to relocate Read More
