THIS PLACE IS CURSED... - 4/10/2009
You know, I normally try to be positive about any situation I am in because I am the one that placed myself in it in the first place more than likely, but I must agree with these posters 1000%. I moved here from North Carolina to take a new job, best salary I have ever made, but in the 5 months I have been here I have been involved in three accidents and one situation where Walmart changed my oil and the technician forgot to tighten my drain bolt so 5 weeks later I'm going down the road to work and all of a sudden I hear a bang and white smoke starts pouring out of my vehicle. THe bolt gets blown off after working loose. The drivers here have absolutely NO CONCERN FOR ANYONE, even themselves I believe and for God Sake, don't get in their way or you will get the finger. I hate this place and if God will let me get out of here you can BET I will NEVER return. This place is

Sunshine and Warm Weather - 4/9/2009
Moved to Phoenix 3 years ago because I absolutely love the climate. Sunshine is my thing, and I can take the heat, no problem. If that's your thing, you will probably like it too. I came from a really rainy, damp climate (Seattle), which while culturally, socially, economically environmentally and in every other way vastly superior to Phoenix, I decided to make the desert my home. Phoenix in general in comparison is lacking in refinement, intelligence, civility, economic development, all the jobs pay horribly low wages (think call center), the houses are cheap and ugly, and virtually worthless, for the most part, although there are some decent neighborhoods. It's generally flat, brown and dusty everywhere, but there are cool locations not too far away if you want to get out of town. I'm just comparing this to what I know (Seattle and San Francisco) where I've lived before. If you come from like Detroit or some other type of city, you will probably think Phoenix is kind of

Good Life - 3/3/2009
As a resident of Phoenix for 15 years, and a Orange County California ex-patriate, I think this city is as good as any. Nice year-round weather, nice hot summers (good for water activities) and decent proximity to the beach, snow, Vegas etc.. put Phoenix above many others. The Sonoran Desert is beautiful. Life is good. And the dry climate keeps my wifes hair from being frizzy and is good for her

Not too bad - 2/17/2009
I have been living in Phoenix for the past 5 years and I do have to say that the cost of living has changed over those years but not too much. The biggest thing I have noticed an increase in has been groceries. Food is a bit more expensive now than it was 5 years ago BUT if you know how to shop for the deals and where to shop, It really shouldnt bee too bad for you. Also if you make under $1500 (I believe), you can apply for food stamps to help with groceries and having kids helps you get more money on food stamps!! And there is no shame to having food stamps to help out. Hell, it keeps money in your pocket for other things such as utilities and cable/internet and/or cell phone.
Utilities are a bit higher now and if you dont go bazzerk with your electric and know how to manage it like I do, then your bill should be $100 or less. I pay around %60-%70 or less in the winter and thanks to swamp coolers I pay around $30-$50 in the summer.
Also If you can go with

Whine, whine, whine - 2/16/2009
Of course Phoenix has its share of problems. So does every city in the world. You just need to look at the various places in the area and pick the one that suits you best. I lived here for 5 years, moved away for work, and cannot wait to come back. I lived in Ahwatukee and loved it. I also have friends in Chandler and the far East valley who also love where they are. The weather is fantastic, the crime is actually low in many, many neighborhoods, it's near to everything (mountains, lakes, San Diego), and since so many people move here every month, it is a very exciting and vibrant place to live. I've lived in many medium and large cities and phoenix is still my

Visit yes.. live here absolutely not! - 1/28/2009
This is by far the worst city to live in if you have a family. I lived here for over 7 years with my husband and 2 small children at the time. Gated community.. looked great inside and out cute apartment complex. Then comes Friday and Saturday nights Have you seen that show Cops? That was our life, ghetto birds (helicopters) shining that hot light into our apartment complex looking for gang members and God knows what else. I saw more crime, dead bodies, heard SO many gun shots and left over crime scenes from drive-bys than I care to remember. Have you heard of the Good Samaritan Crimes that started in L.A. that is another thing they do there. You see someone with their headlights off driving in the opposite direction, do NOT flash your lights at them if you do the young boy in the backseat will shoot your ass and then he's in their gang. Yes its that bad. Don't believe me?? Look up the crime rate per capita compared to L.A. - Phoenix is honestly worse. And the heat? Don't

Light rail - 12/20/2008
I can not wait for the thing to be up and running. Of all the major cities that I have been to, Phoenix has by far the worst public transit system that I've seen. I would have to say the public is probably split down the middle as to whether the rail system will be of any benefit. I for one, think that the rail will be a huge boost to Phoenix becoming a true "metropolis". For those of you that voted yes on light rail, thank you. I can not wait until they spread the lines out into the burbs, so we that really stand to benefit the most, can start to ride to work and the city in peace all while reading the paper or a good book. It beats sitting on the U.S. 60 daily morning parking lot any

Leaves much to be desired - 12/19/2008
Phoenix is great for younger people. You have the college town in Tempe. A median population about age 30 or so. Plenty of jobs that pay $10-$12 per hour. But if you are mid-career forget it. People from the mid-west love it here because there is no winter to speak of. But if you move here from California you'll likely regret

No Jobs - 12/4/2008
I have been living in Phoenix for 16 years. Phoenix has many pluses but if you work in high-tech you're not going to find a good job. All the high-tech companies left in the early 2000's. The housing market is a mess and it is expensive here. The 90's were great in Phoenix, but those days are gone. The summers last about 9 months and the congestion of senior drivers is unbearable. If you're retired and love the heat, maybe this is your place. If you need a high paying job and are raising a family, look someone

Hey now! - 11/30/2008
I see all these people on here dissing my beautiful city and it makes me angry. I am a born and raised Arizona native who has done a lot of traveling my life and still would be perfectly happy to spend the rest of my life here in this "Valley of the Sun" We have blue sky's almost everyday, and you can see the stars almost every night. You can drive an hour and a half and be in the forest and cooler weather, you can drive 3 hours to Mexico, California's San Diego and L.A. are a short commute, Camping and hiking are LIMITLESS and if you have ever been to Sedona or the Grand Canyon you will not say we are without splendor. Phoenix is a vibrant fast paced city with endless cultural diversity and a hoppin' night life. Anyone who says they don't like Phoenix is obviously dwelling on the negative or just sticking their heads in the sand and refusing to see all this city and state have to offer. And believe me, you get used to the heat really fast, a lot faster than I got used to the cold
