It's all true - 1/14/2006
I've lived here for 18yrs, came from NY. All the comments above are true. The good is true and the bad is true. It all comes down to what;s most important to you and what you are looking for in a city. It's about what you are willing to live with and what you can tolerate. I have been happy here for 18 years with the good and the bad. For the first time in 18 years I am thinking about leaving and heading to the Southeast. I know if I make that move I will miss alot of things about Phoenix I really do enjoy the weather but it's time for a change. My advice is if anyone is considering moving here please take all the comments above into consideration because it is all

Climate - 1/11/2006
The Phoenix climate in the summer is extreme. It is intolerably hot and dry. The pollution is very bad with many high pollution advisories in the winter months. The winter months are also extremely dry. One can never keep the home clean due to the dust. Also, Valley Feaver is a health

Lived in NJ 23yrs, love it in AZ! - 12/24/2005
First of all, NJ was horrible I can't believe I lasted there for so long. High income tax, property tax, toll roads, people are jerks, highly polluted, worst place for nature lovers. I am in Phoenix area for 2years and I love so much! Yes I will not lie about dusty air, hell-like weather in July-August, people drive like morons, house prices skyrocketed. But there are so many advantages. Winter is among the best in USA (65-70s in Dec-Feb). So many mountains to hike, backpack, Sedona is 2 hours away, want to ski drive 2 1/2hrs north to Flagstaff, utilize your pool from Jun to October, low income taxes, low property taxes, people are friendlier overall, great state for real estate investment, Las Vegas is 5hrs away, LA is 6hrs away, lots of national parks to visit (Grand Canyon 4hrs away), Lake Powell kicks butt, beach is less than 4hrs away in Mexico, economy staying strong. Phoenix, the American Dream, if... - 10/12/2005
...your idea of the American dream is nuclear families living in boxy houses that are mere feet away from each other.
...your idea of the American dream is the oft-templated grind of fighting traffic on careless freeways through dusty air, a felt-walled cubicle waiting to shelter you for 9 hours of technology, management, investment - whatever your white-collar trade may be.
...your idea of the American dream is strip malls and super Blank-marts and food chains and SUVs and overpaid athletes.
To be fair, these things do represent the dreams and aspirations of a great many people, and who could blame them? Many people in the world can only dream of this quality of life. And anyone who does should come to Phoenix because the opportunities for such a life are abundant and ever-growing. The valley is quickly bursting at the seams, building newer masterplanned communities and supporting them with a myriad of familiar services.
