If you dont like it, you can leave! - 3/2/2007
I am one of a very few natives of this city. Born and raised in "the valley of the sun". I know this city like the back of my hand. And for anybody to say this city is ugly and sucks brings much dissappointment into my heart. I wasnt born in the nice parts of this city, I was raised in an area most of the millions of people who live here have never been. Its one of the oldest parts of the city but also maybe the poorest part also. 19th ave and Buckeye. And yes that praticular area is ugly but that is where im from. But for any one to say Phoenix as a whole is ugly, dirty, poor or uneducated; is out of there mind!

Phoenix is in the Sonoran Desert. Ok, for you uneducated people this means your in a land environment that is like no other place in the world. You have plants that grow in your very back yard that do not grow any other place in the world. You have scents of aroumas from flowers that you can smell from dusk till down and have hummingbirds zipp by Read More

Phoenix is the Teen who can't drive - 2/28/2007
This city is the worst for traffic between 6-10am and 2-7pm. They have construction going on but it never looks like anyone is ever working on it. As a result of the sucky public transport the air quality is horrible, I came to Phoenix to help my sinus problems, however I have seen no noticible difference. If you don't mind working in a call center, getting stuck in traffic and breathing horrible air then this is the place for Read More

Missed Phoenix - 2/24/2007
I moved from the Phoenix area to follow my husband to his job and have missed it ever since. I liked to heat. Loved the shopping, food, access to great concerts and sports, getting my hair done at Vidal Sassoon, the clean neighbors and highways, and the southwest motif. I tolerated the traffic. I lived in Gilbert and Scottsdale. Scottsdale was the best. People were friendly there and happy. Gilbert is more family oriented and my sons liked it but the east-west traffic is crazy. I miss the Scottsdale Fashion Mall, the Biltmore, all of the great second hand stores, Eddie V's, Buca Di Peppo, Pei Wei, Chipotle and In n' Out. My husband hated the heat. My sons liked that they could play outside year round. I moved to SE Washington and have been sulking ever Read More

Phoenix is very Overrated - 2/21/2007
Its seems that when people are talking about Phoenix there really talking about Scottsdale. Which seems to be the only city within the whole are with somewhat decent amenities. Other than that the Phoenix area loses its appeal real quick. I have observed that Phoenix attracts these kind of people: 1.) Your very conservative, 2.) Retirees, 3.) sun is the only thing that matters people, 4.) Illegal immigrants, 5.) the uneducated, and . People who live here could care less about the environment, the fact that water or lack there of will be an issue in the near future and that air pollution is nearing Southern California levels. Also, Phoenix and Arizona in general is near the bottom in terms of education and educated people and it Read More

Rebuttal to last post - 2/20/2007
to "everything the other guy said is true"...

People in Phoenix do tend to lack a good education, but so does the average American city or suburb. America is not a well educated country (but look at how many foreigners attend our universities!) However, there are plenty of people in metro Phoenix with college degrees. As with any boomtown, those that are attracted to the 'fast buck' are the desperate souls who generally lack education. Las Vegas has the exact same problem to a more magnified degree than better established and more economically diverse Phoenix.

Real estate did shoot up from 2003 to 2006 and is now overpriced. Well, c'mon, how many other cities are now in a freefall real estate market? Can this truly be blamed on Phoenix? Las Vegas and San Diego should expect 8% depreciation in 2007 according to reports. Look at South Florida as another example. Our nation's economy has been nothing BUT real estate because putting your money anywhere Read More

People here are not very bright - 2/15/2007
Full of ignorant masses. AZ has to import smart people from out of state because the schools are so substandard, they cannot develop the the talent needed to keep phoenix going.
A lot of the natives here experience the behemoth correctional system replete with max and supermax prisons, DWI prisons, and even a "tent city" where the common criminal goes for a short bid.
Phoenix is full of low wage jobs for mediocre people. If you are not very bright, and you like doing collections or customer service in a call center for 8 bucks an hour, this is your MECCA.
also, you will be surrounded by rude, stupid people who can't Read More

everything the other guy said is true - 2/15/2007
People here are extremely *low* IQ. Do you know why that is? Because the state spends exponentially more money on its gigantic prison system than it does on Education. People here are not just dumb, they look dumb and act dumb too.
This is a low-wage economy, with a lot of miserable people pounding their head on the dash while stuck in LA-style gridlock on I-10. Thet finally get home to their cookie cutter tract housing, usually a tiny casita or patio home that they cannot sell for what they bought it for, due to cash back deals with dishonest realtors falsely inflating the comps (see recent az republic article)
Did I mention there are a lot of lowlifes here? Theres a gigantic cadre of tweakers, junkies, and crackheads, burglars and property crime. The prison population is only a small reflection of the quotidian criminal activity.
If you are looking to get an education, forget Phoenix. Go to the U of A in Tucson. ASU is the biggest party school ever on the face of Read More
