MEDIOCRITY IS ALIVE AND WELL IN PHOENIX - 12/15/2006
I have lived in Phoenix for over 20 years and find the educational system terribly lacking in quality and the emphasis is on mediocrity. There are no institutions of higher learning clustered in the metro area to not only attract the best and brightest, but that leaves no opportunity for collaboration amongst the best and brightest and there peers because there is no such infrastructure in place and the Gov't "leaders" want to keep it that way. There is very little if any recruitment of any high tech firms to the metro area because our Gov't knows we do not have the infrastructure to support them. There are 4 professional sports teams here. All mediocre. That's what this area thrives

pollution/transportation/rude and stupid people - 12/15/2006
The pollution here is terrible. I now have allergies, sinus problems, and since we don't get much rain, the air just lingers, is ugly, and getting too hard to breathe. There is inefficient public transportation so everyone drives, everyone is basically rude, and stupid. I had a girl ask me if I wanted cheese on my quesadilla.... no

Errors in Phoenix Climate Data on this Website - 12/13/2006
Phoenix gets ZERO snow per year. The last two times it snowed were 1939 and 1985 officially. This site claims 7.3 inches--WRONG.
Phoenix gets anywhere from 4 to 12 inches per year in precipitation but averages about 8 inches. This site claims 12.5 inches--WRONG.
Phoenix's average July high is 106. This site claims 91 (we wish!)--WRONG.
Phoenix's average January low is 44. This site claims 27--WRONG. We haven't been officially below freezing in

Phoenix Climate Facts - 12/13/2006
Let's examine Phoenix's heat. The hottest days in each calendar month since records began in the late 1880s are: Jan 88, Feb 92, Mar 100, Apr 105, May 114, Jun 122, Jul 121, Aug 118, Sep 116, Oct 107, Nov 96, Dec 87. Of course, don't expect to see this every year! In each of 2005 and 2006 we had 105 days with highs of 100 or more and 65 more days at 90-99. Because of the urban heat island effect, summer morning lows have increased from the mid-70s to the mid-80s over the last 30 years. We had around 75 days each year where the low was 80 or more. In 2006, there were 11 days where the temp failed to get below 90!
If you get depressed by clouds and darkness, Phoenix is your cure. The sun shines practically all the time (and you get nice moonlight because of the clear skies). Clouds and rain are so infrequent, you won't remember the previous occurrence. Summer sun sets around 7:40PM on the longest day. Winter sun sets around 5:20PM on the shortest day.

not the greatest place - 12/12/2006
I moved to Phoenix 2 years ago. We came from a very small town in Michigan. The ONLY reason we came here is because my son is handicap, the cold weather in Michigan was getting to hard for him. We have found GREAT doctors here. But I would say thats all. This place sucks! The hot weather, well we got use to that and it has been great for my son. People here are so rude. The streets are crazy, people cutting you off, yelling at you, road rage!!! The air sucks. If you are white be ready to get dirty looks and have people say rude things to you the first time you walk into a Food City store. I surely don't fell safe here. I say if you don't have to be here

Phoenix Took a PLUNGE !! - 11/25/2006
My fiance and I had moved to phoenix 4 years ago. We had moved due to lack of opportunity in the midwest where we are from. Granted, there is a ton of opportunity in the valley, I have to agree with the previous post in that the jobs are extremely low paying jobs that make you feel useless. There are a ton of phonies driving around in their hummers, escalades, mercedes in which think they are the best, and the world should revolve around them; no one here is friendly, it's like the official Mexico of the United States. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that when we first moved here in 2003, we liked to live here, and thought that we may have found our home, but after more and more people keep moving in, and the cost of living keeps rising, however the housing market is crashing faster than people can get out. My opinion is that the valley is going down, and only down. Everyone I have talked to has said that they want to move home, where ever that may be, iI have to agree,

Native Phoenician Looking For a New Home - 11/21/2006
I've lived in Phoenix all my life (28 years) and I can honestly say I am getting tired of it. My wife and I plan on looking elsewhere to raise a family. The heat lingers longer every year (asphalt and concrete hold it in), the schools are terrible, traffic is frustrating, the people lack a sense of community, downtown is a joke (but getting better). Auto Theft is number 3 in the nation, and the 75% of the economy is basically built on people simply movnig here, no depth. Cost of Living is starting to become unattractive. Jobs are plentifull, but pay much lower than the national scale. The suburbs all look the same, every 5 miles seems to be the same thing over and over.
Why people move here, I don't know. I guess they can handle 115 degrees better than 2 degrees. It is not a place that I would want to raise a family. I guess I turned out all right, but Metro Phoenix had half the population when I graduated HS. I guess what I am saying is that I am hoping an praying that

Phoenix: The Past, the Present, and the Future (Un - 11/18/2006
Phoenix, AZ: Yes, my home for seven years. I relocated to Phoenix from a Chicagoland suburb in 1998. It was a great place for a Mid-Westerner, such as myself at the time. I loved the sunshine, the mountains, and the people seemed very friendly. After about two years went by, life in Phoenix started to go south. People were always quick to back-stub you, but yet so sweet to the face. I can write a novel about my experiences living in Phoenix, but I'm tired now and will do that at a later date.
In a nutshell, Phoenix WAS a good place to live, in the '90's and before. It all started to go down after the 9/11/01. The company I was working for layed everyone off. I was one of the last to go, which made me unemployed in 2003. Good jobs were very scarce. I went three months before I found a job in my profession of H.R. I finally found a job in my profession in July 2003. After a month of working at that job, I found out I was pregnant with my 1st child. I then told my bosses..

moving to phoenix - 11/16/2006
vanessa--noo!! don't move here! we're moving out after my wife has been here 23 yrs, and I've been here 15 yrs. Phoenix is heading by the way of over-growth. I drive a bus in this city, and people have no qualms about cutting off a 17 ton bus loaded with people, and then flip me and my passengers off for their own ignorance just to make a right turn in front of me. Air quality is horrendous!!and I can't emphasize that enough.
However, every city has it's own flavor and what 1 likes about it another doesn't. Pay a visit first, drive during rush hour and come during summer--preferably august to get a good jest of the summer heat--usually around 110-117 and make sure your vehicle has bone-chilling a/c. Just don't break down as a lot of people won't stop and those that do sometimes aren't on the up and up (I usually call p.d. or h.p.)
Take several visits during different times of the year, as the most polluted is around the latter part. It's called "temperature inversion" where

beautiful but.... - 11/16/2006
The climate is great, beautiful scenery, but air pollution is terrible. Was visiting for only a couple of days but during that time I noticed that I was coughing a lot and my sinuses were congested when I was outside (no I wasn't coming down with a cold). Unfortunately this isn't going to improve due to the huge population and poor public transit
