Many questions about Phoenix. - 7/26/2009
I am wanting to move to Phoenix within the next few months, but I had a few questions about the quality of personal discipline? What is the work ethic of people in phoenix? Do they work hard and efficiently, or are they ok with mediocrity? Do people strive for more, have goals, want the best? Do people have class, are they narrow minded, will a gay person be lynched and killed. Can anyone shine a light on the personalities and over all demeanor of the majority of phoenix? Read More

Phoenix: The Good, Bad & Ugly - 7/19/2009
Everything was fine in Phoenix up until the housing bubble burst. What happened? Well, you could say the residents here are very much into "image" and little else. Tattoos, earlobe stretching, piercings, pitbulls, big wheels on their SUV, lifted trucks and new toys. I'm unsure if this is supposed to be a new mini-LA.

The biggest problem in Phoenix metro is its people. And by this I include Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Maryvale and every other suburb. The people are far too materialistic and narcissistic to function in a modern society. You can observe this at any store or just cruising five miles by the idiotic drivers here. A sense of MFFY: "me first, screw you." Don't get me started on relationships. There's a reason why Phoenix is one of the top divorce capitals of the US. Also, there's a ton of out-of-wedlock children, so it might be the single mom or deadbeat dad capital now, too.

Another problem in Phoenix is crime. The police are either too busy or Read More

Born and raised here-it is not a good place - 7/10/2009
Unfortunately, all the reviews about the poor quality of life in Phoenix are correct. Unless you are very wealthy and can segregate yourself from most of the community, this is not a good place to raise a family, buy a house, go to school or start a career. The school system is terrible and when there are budget issues (as there usually are since the AZ government is overall incompetent) they first place they cut is the school budget. The president of the only major public university in the city has managed to bankrupt it. The housing market is overpriced and the sense of community is non-existent. People are rude and selfish, just drive here once and you will be able to see that. It is crowded, hot, and so spread out, its almost impossible to "get out of town" for the weekend. The West side is nothing but crime and the east is not affordable. For such a large city, its downtown lacks character or substance. This might get better with an ASU campus down there (if they can stay in Read More

Bad air. - 6/24/2009
Ive been living in Phoenix 21 years. I dont have asthma or any respitory diseases. However I have a hard time breathing all year round. In the summer months the ozone is bad. Ozone irritates the lungs and inflames them like a sunburn. In the winter months the particulates are bad. Ive been an athlete my whole life. This not being able to breath in a healthy manner is very scary. When I leave the city for a few days,I feel great and can breath again. Most people dont have this much discomfort with the air,but it still effects Read More

Pluses and Minuses - 6/10/2009
I moved here four months ago and this city and state has it's pluses and minuses. The view is amazing, so many things to do, public transportation is amazing, cost of living is very cheap and the crime is low. Being only two and a half hours from mexico it does not feel like you are in america. The weather was good the first couple of months but has turned extremely hot and while their is no humidity hot is hot. The housing market and economy badly damaged and from the conservative leadership they refuse to take the bailout money to restore the economy as a result the deficit is over 6 billion dollars and eventually they will raise taxes!! At this time I would not recommend anyone moving here until the economy stablizes and if your not into heat it will not be for you or if,you are big on the american Read More

Phoenix - 6/8/2009
I moved to Phoenix from Michigan in 2005 and am a bit disappointed by my experience. Phoenix has some strong negatives. The heat is unbearable from late May to most of October. I don’t find the people to be very friendly either, and they don’t seem to have any desire to get to know you. Too many people seem reserved, unfriendly, uninteresting, materialistic, snooty and unhappy. Housing is not very attractive, where everything looks the same. I don’t know how people can tell their house from their neighbors. And then there is the bad air. Phoenix is not the best place for those suffering from bad allergies. Air pollution is especially bad in the summr. The crime is also high, due to the huge presence of illegal immigrants. Its hard to find someone who speaks English in McDonalds anymore—incredibly annoying. People in the Valley also have bad driving habits and road rage. Good paying jobs are few and far between, and the cost of living is way out of balance with incomes. The education Read More

Great city, great climate 9 months, terrrible econ - 6/6/2009
We have lived in Phoenix for over 40 years and up until now have considered it a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family except for the last few years. The drawbacks to Phoenix now as we see them are, 2nd worse housing market in the US, high crime rate due to closeness of Mexico border and too many gangs, heavy traffic and poor mass transit for the 5th largest city, terrible political climate(everybody fights with everybody and gets nothing done.)Both the state and the city deficits are sky high and taxes will most likley be going up. Cost of living high. If you are a young degeed professional or high tech you will love it here except in July and August. Just don't plan to retire here without substantial Read More
