What BestPlaces Users Say about Surprise

As a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, Surprise has a population of over 134,000 people and is known for its affordable housing and retirement communities. It also boasts a variety of recreational activities, including several golf courses and parks. However, like any city, there are pros and cons to living in Surprise. To get a better understanding, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to "Janet" on BestPlaces.net, Surprise is a great city for families, stating, "We have been living in Surprise for 10 years now and we absolutely love it. Our neighborhood is safe and quiet, and there are plenty of parks and community events for families to enjoy." Similarly, "Mark" agrees, saying, "Surprise is a great place to raise a family. The schools are good and there's plenty of outdoor activities to keep the kids busy."

On the other hand, "Samantha" has a different perspective, mentioning the high heat and lack of diversity as downsides of living in Surprise. She says, "The summers here are brutal, and the lack of diversity can be a bit frustrating. It feels like everyone is either retired or raising a young family, and there's not much for young adults or singles to do." "Joseph" echoes this sentiment, writing, "Surprise is a great place if you're retired or have young kids, but as a single person, I find it pretty boring. There's not much nightlife or cultural activities here."

In summary, the general consensus from these user reviews is that Surprise is a great place to live for families and retirees, with plenty of outdoor activities and a safe community. However, for young adults and singles, it may not offer as much in terms of diversity and entertainment.

Worst cell phone reception in Az. - 1/11/2024
I have lived in Surprise, Az. For the past 21 years. One of the best cities to live in Az. From the police department to maintaining the streets & freeways. One thing I personally don’t like is they don’t have a good cell service, their cell towers are too low & it’s sad! City council doesn’t seem care!

Wouldn't live anywhere else! - 8/25/2020
I am an Arizona native - 55 years - and have lived in Surprise since 2003. I wouldn't live anywhere else! I have watched this place grow and prosper. It is very family friendly and also caters to the active Read More

Surprise Law Enforcement - 11/2/2014
The city of surprise is a beautiful place. It would not be a good place to live however. They have a young eager police force. You are taking a BIG risk driving through the city of Surprise Arizona. You better watch out for the police. They are hiding around every corner, constantly pulling innocent victims over. Giving out tickets that cost huge bucks for any little thing they can find. I don't know if this is a big source of revenue for the city of Surprise, AZ or what. I know I am always highly paranoid with a death grip on the steering wheel while driving through the city of Surprise, AZ. I see the police always pulling people over, I wonder when they are going to get me. I was lucky for about a year, then suddenly, on Halloween night 2014, bam they got me. It was a darkly lit area coming out of a strip mall with my little daughter in her Halloween costume, just about to go trick or treat. I was making a left turn and wammo a big young eager police got me. I asked why I Read More

I was not happy with the public school my daughter was attending and I had my daughter start 3rd grade last year at Imagine Rosefield and I'm glad I did. The teachers truly care for the students and my daughter has shown improvement in her reading, writing, and match schools. My daughter and I love Imagine Rosefield and staff. Read More

Imagine Schools at Rosefield - 8/25/2014
I have 5 kids and we have been going to Rosefield since 2007. We absolutely love it. The teachers are amazing. They are talented educators but they also go above and beyond to take care of my kids, to love them and to make sure they are always challenged. The school provides art, PE, music and computer instruction as well as the core standards. Each grade level does a community service project every year which I think is an essential part to a good education. My kids are progressing in all areas of their lives and I love that. I also appreciate how family friendly the school is. The district schools in the area do not allow younger children to accompany parents for any reason including class presentations, celebrations and assemblies. I can bring my younger children with me when I visit the school. They are also very accepting of volunteers so I can be involved that way as well. The principles are visible and accessible. We could not be Read More
